According to Ithaca College’s website, “Ithaca College is a residential institution and guarantees each of its students on-campus housing for the entirety of their undergraduate career.” Seniors get to pick first, then juniors, then sophomores and finally, freshmen. However, freshmen housing is separate from the upperclassmen. So really, sophomores on the second day of selection get the worst picks. While some of you have managed to secure a foothold in a room, some of you are looking at a lack of living anywhere on campus, with little comfort from Residential Life. So, here are a few alternatives if enough people don’t drop out or if you don’t take over the lounges.
1. Hotel
Ithaca is home to numerous hotels, some really expensive, some really far away from campus.
2. On the floor of a friend’s room
What says getting to know you like living on the floor of your friend’s already cramped room?
3. Peggy Ryan Williams Center
This is the building where most, if not all, of the administrative offices are. The protestors from the “Tom Rochon No Confidence” movement slept there for a couple of nights. I’m sure they’d let you do the same.
4. In the library
The Library is open 24 hours for five days a week. And there’s a café for you to get your morning coffee. Plus, you’ll get the best spot to work during the busiest parts of the day. The problem with this is of course that the library closes for a few hours on the weekends. I suggest going to another option on this list or hiding in the library bathrooms.
5. In a classroom
Some classrooms are conveniently left open all night long. I do not know which rooms these are exactly, but I’m sure you’ll find out through trial and error.
6. A bench on campus
This is for you potential protestors out there. Not only will sleeping on benches be an act of protest, but you’ll also be ready for any other protest on the Quad.
7. In the neighborhoods
People in Ithaca love it when loud, drunk college students walk to and from parties late at night. I’m sure they would also love if you slept in their lawns. Maybe you could make a deal and keep the loud students away for them.
8. IC Natural Lands
There’s nothing quite like sleeping under the stars every night. Especially when the deer are watching you. They’re always watching. Waiting for the moment to strike. They have no fear.
9. The Commons
Due to the feeling of safety from vehicles within the confines of the Ithaca Commons, it is a favorite spot for homeless people. And technically, you’re homeless now.
10. Under a rock
Judging from the way Patrick lives, this isn’t really that bad of a living situation. And Residential Life hasn’t given you much of an option…
So, maybe you’ll find housing. Maybe you’ll be stuck in a lounge. Or maybe you’ll have to rely on this list. Regardless of where you choose to live this fall, remember for any outside living options to…
