While I may write some pretty good speeches, I'm not the greatest motivational speaker in the world. The kind of motivational speeches I give, are typically the ones where my family and I are sitting on the couch watching UNC Basketball, and I'm screaming at the TV: "Luke Maye, can you stop sucking for .5 seconds?!"
As you can see, not exactly a great motivational speaker.
However, I have made a lot of changes in my life over the past few months, and I would like to share one of the biggest things I've learned.
I had been dealing with a lot of stress at the beginning of the school year and the only outlet that seemed to make a difference was turning to the Lord. I have a bible study every night, I created my own prayer journal to write down my thoughts and feelings, and I went on Pinterest and followed bible verses.
On a cold, dreary Monday morning, I sat in my class a couple hours early and just spent time going through all the verses that were on my feed. As I was scrolling, I came across a devotion. It was titled, "What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail?"
I remember actually feeling stumped seeing that question, wondering how in the world this devotion got placed on a timeline specifically for bible verses? That told me I was supposed to see this, for whatever reason that may be.
I began to think about all the things I would do if I knew I wouldn't fail: write a book, publish my blog, apply for an internship; the possibilities were endless.
How did I know that these things wouldn't succeed, to begin with? I shouldn't have to rely on the fact that I know I'm not going to fail, I need to trust myself and God that what's meant to be will happen. God isn't going to give you something if it isn't going to teach you something, if it isn't going to help you grow as a person, or if it isn't going to bring you closer to Him.
Why would you want something that isn't going to help you in any way?
While knowing whether or not you will fail or succeed at something would be nice, I think that it tells you a lot more about someone if they put their trust in God and let him be in control.
While I may not be great at being a motivational speaker, it's when I sit back and let God do the talking that things really come together. I will end with a quote from the book of Proverbs:
"Commit to the Lord no matter what you do, and your plans shall succeed."
