We live in a society that is constantly waiting. Waiting for the weekend, waiting for the New Year, waiting to become another year older. Waiting for the latest iPhone, waiting for the newest styles, waiting for the next vacation. We even go as far as to beg for Winter when its hot outside, but immediately miss the heat once again when cold weather rolls around.
When did this become a trend? It is something even I can admit to being guilty of — telling myself that "If only I were older," or, "If only it were just summer already," or ,"if only I were smarter/prettier/healthier/just all around 'better,'" ...I would finally be happy.
And isn't it so easy to get down on ourselves, telling ourselves all these things- without doing a thing about it?
I'm not saying that you should constantly try to change yourself in order to find happiness. In fact, one of the biggest changes you can make mentally to find a sense of happiness is learning to be okay with where you are at in life: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But in order to get there, you have to make the effort. For me, taking the initiative has always been the hardest part: when do I start?
I'm here to tell you the time to start is now. You don't need a sign in neon lights, you don't need to wait to make this next year's New Year Resolution, you don't even have to wait for the start of next week. If you are ready to make a change, make that change now.
If you want to go to the gym, GO!
You don't have to have a partner, you don't have to know how to do the perfect squat, you don't even have to know how to work the machines at the gym. Just get off of the couch, and go! Everyone else that seems super experienced had to start somewhere, and you can not compare your chapter one to someone else's chapter 20.
If there is someone you love, or a person you have been wanting to get to know, tell them!
There is no time like the present, and why waste any time not knowing someone who you may want to spend time with for the rest of your life? One of the things I wish I could change most about some of my friendships, is that I had gone out of my way sooner to get to know them.
If you want to change the way you look, go for it!
You don't need anyone else's approval for that hair cut, and you don't need to consult anyone before trying a new shade of lipstick on. If you want to show up to school with no make up on, do it, and if you want to wear a full face of make up every day, then go for it! What matters is how you feel about how you look, so you don't need to give every one else a "notice" memo when you are ready to make a change.
If you want to further your education, get started now!
Go back to school, or read that book you have been picking up and putting down at Barnes and Noble. You don't have to worry about what people will think. Knowledge is one of the only things no one can ever take away from you. Get motivated and get it done right here, right now. You deserve it.
Making the effort is the biggest part of changing your life, and you will truly thank yourself later for taking that first step that set all the others in motion.
Life is too short to wait for "the right moment." Go out and make this moment your own.
