If you miss high school... you probably had a class similar to mine. My graduating class had a little over 20 people. When I tell people that, they usually slide in a little joke asking how we could even have class with only 20 students. Sometimes I think about what it would've been like to go to a big school with hundreds of students and new opportunities, but when I think about that... I always end up thinking of my class that welcomed me into their tight knight family in sixth grade.
I think it says a lot that when someone who hates mornings, like me, looked forward to waking up every morning to go to school just to see my class. Everything with our class was an adventure. From homecoming week to calculus to lunch, there was always something going on that reminded me of how much I love my class.
Sixth grade turned into freshman year and freshman year soon turned in to graduation. Giving a speech at graduation really made me think about how lucky I was to be a part of such an amazing group. One of our teachers would joke around and call us his family but soon we realized we were all a family, and it wasn't just because we were from a small town where everybody is related to each other; it was because of all the heart warming moments we shared.
It was moments like our senior trip to Wisconsin Dells, where the boys grilled out for everybody and made some of the best burgers I've ever tasted where I felt like we were a true family. Sharing a cabin with each other for three days was bound to cause petty drama, but instead it somehow brought all of us closer. It was moments like homecoming float building where we all quit to go play ping pong which made me realize how lucky I am to have them. It's moments like giving a speech in English class and bursting out in laughter because you can't take your classmates seriously that made me realize how happy my class made me. It's moments such as junior prom, where there was so much drama beginning with which theme to choose, but it ended with us holding hands and smiling.
If you find yourself in college reminiscing on all your fun high school memories, you probably had a class like a mine. A class with a million memories and laughs. A class that wasn't afraid to be who they were around each other. A class that seemed more like a gigantic family.
After graduation, everybody goes their separate ways. Some may stay home and commute to college, and that's okay. Some might go states away to college and experience new places and make new friends, and that's okay. Some may stay at home and enter the work force, and that's okay.
If you had a class like mine, distance doesn't matter. If you had a class like mine, you'll have a lifetime of memories to keep you entertained wherever you are. If you had a class like mine, you're probably missing high school too.
If you had a class like mine...boy you got lucky.
