2017 is quickly approaching and even though it feels like we were just ringing in the year of 2016, it is time to celebrate once again. That is the thing about time...it never slows down and it never changes pace; it simply just keeps ticking along. A new year means a lot of talk about new years resolutions and all things related. If this totally grinds your gears, I am here to give you some much needed information.

New Years Resolutions are often related to making a huge change. Some people want to commit to the gym and get in shape, while some may want to commit to being happier, which might mean leaving a toxic relationship or a job. Other people simply just want to be a better person and they are going to take the steps to do so. Although I agree that if you want or need to make a change, you can absolutely wake up one morning and do so, but it is not that simple for everyone. Sometimes you need a good excuse (like a new year) to light a fire inside of you to better your life. It is important that people feel support and a good push from those around them. If you are someone that can wake up one morning and change your life completely because you felt the need to, you are awesome and I envy you. But if you are someone that needs something like a fresh start to take care of the business you have been neglecting, good news: your new year is almost here. That is the cool part about time, it often gives us these glimpses of light where you can start over if you please.

So if you are hating on new year, new me posts or any sort of talk about someone bettering themselves come the new year, I hope you understand that not everyone can wake up one morning and leave their toxic relationship, start busting their butt at the gym, stop drinking, or begin treating people better. But if the new year can bring better and more positive vibes to people's lives, don't be hatin' on them for that!

Happy 2017!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
