"HaHAAAAAAAA"
My three friends, and I used this made up "call" of ours to ensure all members of the gang were still there while we tried to navigate ourselves in the monstrous park of Walt Disney World. It was April of 2016 when we embarked on the adventure of a lifetime, our senior trip.
Often times, we are introduced to new opportunities or experiences, and something always holds us back. Is it fear? It's so hard to come out and admit to, but I truly believe that it is fear. Big, nasty fear and anxiety.
I can speak for myself when I say, I am afraid of new things. I don't like to rearrange furniture because I am so used to it being a certain way. It's crazy and such an odd thing to stress over, but sometimes our fear is that minute.
This past year, I was given the opportunity, along with the rest of the senior class of West Lincoln High School, to go to Walt Disney World. If you don't know, I come from a tiny, little town with a small, but fun-loving high school. I thought it was pretty cool that a school like ours was hitting it big with Disney World. So I pondered on it, and ultimately missed the deadline to sign up. I was bummed to say the least. I saw all around me, my peers turning in their first payments, and talking about the awesome trip they were going to go on in the spring. Needless to say, I was disappointed in myself that I let my fear hold me back.
Miraculously, they had an odd number and needed more people on the trip to fill up the bus. My friends and I were given a second chance to attend the senior trip so, this time we jumped on it. (Thank you, dear Lord) Payment after payment, list after list, we prepared for months for this trip
The day had come, and we couldn't be more ecstatic. We shared a super nice hotel room where we giggled, danced, and talked up into the morning hours. I packed pb&j sandwiches every night for each of us, so we wouldn't have to spend our money on the parks costly food. Somehow, (I still can't figure out) they got me on these awful, scary rollercoasters. Most of all, we all made memories that we will never forget.
I've said all of this to say, if you are just a little intrigued by something, go for it! Take that chance, go on that trip, ask that person, because what do you have to lose? More than likely, you will gain from it. I sure did.
Side note: To my three best friends that I was given the chance to experience this journey with, thank you for being you, and thank you for supporting me with all of life's journeys. And, HaHAAAAAAAAAAAAA
