With the new bathroom policy put in place by Target to let employees and customers use whichever bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity, the company has been the center of a country-wide debate about whether people should have that decision or not. While I have no problem with this decision and will continue to buy my swimsuits and dresses there, there are others who have pledged to not shop at Target or buy any of their products until they change their decision on the matter. Everyone can make their own decisions and Target acknowledges that respectfully, but if there are going to be people out there who will no longer shop somewhere because they are LBGT friendly, here are some of the other establishments that you should go ahead and stop going to also.
Apple — Tim Cook, Apple CEO and active supporter of pro-equality legislation (oh, and he is openly gay), has become the leader of one of the first major corporations to support the Equality act, so go ahead and return your iPhone, Tablet, and your old school iPod shuffle.
Disney — Since 1988 at the Disneyland California location, there have been "gay days" supporting the LGBT community, and Disney would respectfully refund ticket prices to those who were offended by it, but today, Disney welcomes 35,000 people every October for gay days, and over the years has a universal policy of supporting LGBT communities the whole year, so go ahead and return those tickets for this summer's vacation.
Costco — First of all, whole doesn't love this place? You can buy everything in bulk such as food, cleaning supplies or even clothes, and you get free samples. Who could ask for more? It was also ranked the best perceived brand by consumers and is ranked pretty high on the Equal Human Rights campaign. So that's fine, there won't be lines for me to try an avoid on Saturday mornings if you stop shopping there too.
Nike — In 2015, Nike came out with a new line of clothes along with the hashtag #BETRUE, which is made up of footwear and apparel that supports and celebrates the LGBT community, so works for me, if you have a problem with it there will be more of my favorite shoes and cleats in stock.
Netflix — Right behind Costco in the #1 best perceived company spot, Netflix is at #2 with a full section of LGBT category movies and TV shows, might as well logout and try and catch up with "Grey's Anatomy" without it.
Ford, GM, Nissan, Toyota and VW — All of these automotive companies and so many others not named are LGBT friendly and I don't know about you, but I need a car to get around, but by all means go ahead and drive around like the Flintstones.
AT&T, Time Warner Cable, Comcast — The top cable companies across the country are all LGBT friendly and support the rights of others, so might as well get use to looking at a blank screen
This is just a short list of the many companies across the country that are LGBT friendly and support and respect others decisions to live their lives they way they feel fitting. Also, for those of you confused, sex is what you are born as, gender identity is what you identify yourself as; they are not the same thing and never will be. People who are against Target making their decision along with many other companies have most likely never thought about ever sharing a bathroom with someone who is transgender, and the reason why? They have been using whatever bathroom they want for all their lives and many years and you just never realized it. There is nothing that makes people different just because they identify themselves differently than you see fit or how you would characterize them and it is just plain wrong to try and tell someone where they can and can't pee. Just remember something that probably everyone was told as a child, "Treat others the way that you would like to be treated" and live by those rules, because we aren't 6 years old, and we should all have more common sense than that.
