Every sports fan loves playing General Manager.
"They should have traded for (Insert unrealistic name)!"
The MLB is full of high-profile star players. What if you had the chance to put a team together? You could choose one player from each position, and five pitchers from any team. Who would you choose? Here is my all-star team. Enjoy!
First Base: Paul Goldschmidt
He may be off to a slow start this year, but he is still at least one of the best first basemen in the league. His batting average is almost .300 (it's actually .298) and can turn it on at any second.
Second Base: Robinson Cano
Cano makes it look so easy. You never know if he is actually trying because every play looks routine to him. Cano is also one of the best hitters in the game with an insane career batting average of .307.
Shortstop: Elvis Andrus
Finding a good shortstop now a days is hard. The shortstop market is no where near as good as when you had the choice of guys like Derek Jeter or Cal Ripken Jr. Elvis Andrus is a solid shortstop though. He has a career batting average of .271 and an on base percentage of .332. In a shortstop depleted market, Andrus would be my guy.
Third Base: Manny Machado
Machado wasn't a hard choice. His unreal ability in the batters box and in the field is hard to come by. He has a career batting average of .285 and slugging percentage of .469. Those are Hall of Fame numbers, if he stays on that pace.
Right Field: Carlos Gonzalez
Another easy choice. Stanton is a player that any team would want on their team. He has a batting average near .300 (.291) and his slugging percentage is .526. Those are insanely good numbers.
Center Field: Mike Trout
Possibly the best player in the game right now. Trout is a player that every little leaguer looks up to. He is the next generation Derek Jeter when it comes to his work ethic and never getting shown in a negative light. He has a career batting average .303 and a slugging percentage of .556. It is crazy to see someone that good.
Left Field: Christian Yelich
Yelich is a young player but quickly showed just how good of a player he is. Nobody really knows about him since he players for the Miami Marlins, who have struggled over the past few years. It's weird, the Marlins have a lot of solid players but can't seem to win enough games to make the playoffs.
Catcher: Buster Posey
Three world series titles before the age of 30 is something that not many players can say they've done. Posey has been a center piece of the San Francisco Giants World Series run over the past few years. He has a career batting average of .310 and a slugging percentage of .482.
Starting Pitchers
1. Clayton Kershaw
Kershaw is possibly one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history. Kershaw has 3 Cy Young awards and a career ERA of 2.41
2. Jake Arrieta
Arrieta is slowing climbing the ladder to Kershaw's level. His ability to pitch is unreal. His best seasons have been over the past two years with an ERA of 2.15. He was the Cy Young winner last season.
3. Noah Syndergaard
This may be his first full season in the MLB but Syndergaard is already establishing himself as one of the best pitchers in baseball. He has a fast ball that is almost un-hittable and isn't afraid of any hitter in the league
4. Gerrit Cole
Cole is a very under rated pitcher. Nobody really pay a lot of attention to the Pirates even though over the past few years they've made the playoffs. Cole has a career ERA of 3.32 and is without question one of the best pitchers in the game.
5. Max Scherzer
Scherzer is continuously one of the best pitchers in baseball. Year after year he shows just how dominant he could be. He has a career ERA of 3.47 and a Cy Young award.
Well there it is. My all-star team. Do you agree?
