There's something about autumn, isn't there? The colors, the smells, the scenery. My favorite thing about autumn is the rich reds and oranges that take over. The simplest things we take for granted. But sometimes, we just need to be still and observe God's beauty around us. I wrote this poem to savor every last bit because soon the trees will be bare and the vibrant colors of autumn will turn into hazy grays and dark blues. While winter is just as much a part of God's creation, autumn is special. Autumn is something different.
Autumn's golden leaves glisten like candy wrappers,
Tree trunks admire their work as the people pass.
Scattered about on a floor of concrete,
People step and shatter the leaves like glass.
Crimson trees and contorted twigs,
Cotton candy clouds hide the sky.
The smell of apple wafts through the air,
And people smile as you pass by.
Delicate mornings and crisp cool windows,
Children walking to school blow out silver air.
Scarves and coats fill the streets,
The scarlet trees have hundreds of leaves to spare.
The night is serene and still,
But inside the houses are busy with food.
Roasting sweet potatoes and rosemary sprigs,
Enough smells to get you in the Autumn mood.
I would make Autumn stay all year long if I could,
Oh, if only Autumn would.
