Culturally we are in a time of change where we are seeing women come into more roles of power. For some, this is a direction that is contradictory to their views and can be seen as detrimental. I believe we must embrace our future and allow women to flourish.
Women are bringing new perspectives to fields such as business and tech that were dominated by men. These perspectives help these industries grow and infuse new ideas that vitality areas that are stagnant. The "Tomboy" categorization is on it's way to becoming obsolete because of this. This is the way the modern age is, you cannot label a woman as such because more and more are joining these fields. We can't push back the growing interest in these fields by women.
If now is not the time, then when is? America is founded on fundamental rights and we should give them these rights. One might say we have given them the right but we have given them rights with boundaries. When a woman is a manager or leader there is a change in dynamic in how we communicate and behave. This is across the board from men to women the different treatment of women and men bosses. What I'm calling for is an objectification of a position like this and general treatment of women.
The assumption that a woman is not capable of doing what a man can do has to go out the window. The world is now playing on a level field that allows anyone to be successful. With all these resources available we must accept that an individual, whether man or woman, can come out more successful. There's is no greater time than the present than to protect another's right to be great. A woman does not need acknowledgment by a man to accept that there is value in what she is doing.
Going against the grain has always proven to be a tough act. We have come far and are past times when we had to fight for civil rights for women and others alike. Now is the time for us to not forget that progress and build upon it and support everyone and play on the same level field. We as a society must be accepting of the capabilities of women and we should not limit them.
This is my call to action. This goes beyond wanting one gender to be recognized or supported. It's a call to accept that the world is changing and we all have to change with it and respect each other.
