February 26th turned out to be one of the most stressful days I have experienced. THIS YEAR, We're not even into March and this new year is no different from last year.
My fiancé and I bought a new car about six months ago. So, we now had two cars, a 2009 Honda Accord and a 2018 Honda Accord. Goldie (our nickname for the 2009 Accord) has always been reliable and never had any problems other than the typical maintenance. Han (2018 Accord) has had a few technical glitches but nothing major.
The previous day we had to have Han jumped by AAA because of a dead battery. After it was jumped off, we took him to the dealership to have them look at it. They checked it out and said it was fine. It might have just been a glitch.
We drove Han home and thought things were fine. The next day I took him out to go grocery shopping. My son was with me, we parked at Walmart, did our shopping and left. Han cranked just fine. On the way home I stopped at our local grocery store because there were a few items that I needed that Walmart was out of.
I parked the car; my son and I went in and got the few items needed and then got back in the car.
Well, Han didn't start. My immediate response was to call AAA again and have them jump it off. A gentleman that was at the store as well tried to give me a jump but for whatever reason, his car couldn't do the job.
So, I waited. On AAA. For TWO hours. I was maybe 3 miles from home. Had it been summer time I would have taken my son and the two of us would have walked home to get the other car and drive back to get the groceries. But it's not summer, AND it's New England! Temps dipped below 30 degrees while I waited.
I was trying my best to keep my son occupied and hold it together without losing my shit. It was a very difficult task.
AAA arrived on the scene and he was able to get the car going. I was so relieved! I drove home and unpack the groceries. Earlier in the day, we had made plans to go to the movies, so my immediate thought was to take Goldie. She's reliable, we'll make it there and back with no problems.
That goes as planned until we come back home from taking Han to the dealership for a night drop after going to the movies. Goldie had been a little sluggish to start and I thought maybe it was because of the cold. We get home and pull her into the garage. Instinct tells me to turn her off and try cranking her again. I do and nothing happens. HER BATTERY IS DEAD TOO!
I have no other response but to laugh. I couldn't help it. Hysterical laughter because I can't believe just how crappy the day had turned out. Here we are with two cars, both of which the batteries are dead.
A perfect example of Murphy's Law. If it can go wrong, it will!
