If Hogwarts Students Were College Students

We all aren't cool enough to get into Hogwarts, but I bet I can still place you into a "House" based on your major.

Unfortunately, I wasn't lucky enough to receive a prestigious letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when I was 12 years old, I was robbed. However, I was lucky enough to be accepted to the University of Louisville, school for muggles. Although I wake up each morning just wishing I could say, "Leviosa" and my phone just fly into my hands so I can shut off the alarm, I cope with my muggleness by categorizing all the students and friends I have meet into which house they would be in if they went to Hogwarts. Let's begin...

Hufflepuff:

At Hogwarts, you are sorted as a Hufflepuff if you are defined by your love for your family and comfort. So in college, these are the students that go home every weekend. However, they do care deeply a lot about the relationships they have formed so these are the people that only hang out with their significant others. They are animal and plant lovers so these are your bio majors that will be veterinarians or tree huggers. Hufflepuffs like to stay out of danger or conflict AKA they avoid the gym at all costs. Hufflepuffs play it safe but are liked by all because honestly, who could hate a Hufflepuff?!

Ravenclaw:

Students in this house are known as the questioners so this means that on a college campus, these are your social justice and philosophy majors. These are the kids who are always protesting something on campus and are very passionate about touchy subjects. Ravenclaws seek knowledge even when it involves risk so that means journalism majors are also included in this house. Ravenclaws, much like the activists on campus, look towards the future. These students love to share their opinions and want others to listen- that is why the hot topic speeches on campus always have Ravenclaws in the audience or on stage. You go Ravenclaws, change the world.

Slytherin:

These students are mostly categorized as outspoken or center of attention, so naturally, all of your drama majors will fall into this house. These students want you to know that they are Slytherins (drama or music majors) everywhere they go by singing or loudly prancing around. They are also a very cliquey house so this is the huge group of friends that always pushes all the tables in the dining hall together. This could include fraternity boys or sorority girls because Slytherins are so close and care deeply about their important traditions from the past. Slytherins also tend to be cheaters so hey, help a brotha out on that online quiz? However, these students do run campus and are often on student council for the University. Slytherins are THE top dogs on campus and like to be in charge. Who can blame them?

Gryffindor:

At Hogwarts, the students sorted into Gryffindor are all of the heroes and it is no different than from real life. These students are defined for their desire for fame or to change the world. This is where all your cancer curers, inventors and future authors fall. These students want to be remembered, or remember how much fun they have! That's why these students don't drink and spend their money going to awesome music festivals or hiking every other weekend with cool go pro pics in their enus. However, Gryffindors care about what others think, so they often care way too much about how many likes their sick sunset pic got on Instagram. Hey, nobody's perfect, I'll give you a double tap.

So next time you meet someone, don't ask them about their major, ask them what house they are in!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
