The stages of summer vacation seem to unfold differently once college comes around. It contains all that classic "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" (Numeroff) childhood excitement but seems to have grown up to include other responsibilities and feelings. Here's to the last few summer vacations as enjoyed by college kids.

1. They'll be glad to be home.

2. Since they're glad to be home, they'll be extra nice to their parents.

3. When they're extra nice to their parents, they'll take it upon themselves to start leaving things around the house.

Giphy

4. Then they'll start to lose stuff.

Giphy

5. And they'll swear that next year, they're only bringing to school half of what they brought this year.

Giphy

6. When they start thinking about next year, they'll start to miss school and their friends.

Giphy

7. Thinking about college friends will remind them to call up their friends from home to hang out.

Giphy

8. And they'll start to realize they need a job to pay for all the meals they are eating out with their friends.

Giphy

9. So they'll get a job, realize how long the 9 to 5 workday is, and wish they were back at school.

Giphy

10. So they'll call their college friends.

Giphy

11. Then they'll remember how thankful they are that they don't have any tests tomorrow.

Giphy

12. And they'll make a habit out of relaxing.

Giphy

13. When they make a habit out of relaxing, they will settle into a routine at home and start to get comfortable.

Giphy

14. Until they realize just how quickly move-in day is approaching.

Giphy

15. As soon as they realize this, they will want to go shopping for college stuff.

Giphy

16. Shopping for college stuff will remind them just how little time they get at home these days.

Giphy

17. So they will want to spend more time with their family and enjoy the last few days at home.

Giphy

18. While they enjoy the last few days at home, they will be extra nice to their parents because they really will miss them.

Giphy

19. Even though they're excited to go back, it feels good to be surrounded by the family and friends they have missed. They really are glad they got to come home for the summer.
