This year, over 37,000 students are enrolled at Texas State University. These students will often tell anyone who asks how much they adore their school. The campus is beautiful, there is always something to do either at the square or in nearby Austin and San Antonio and who could forget the river? Not to mention the majestic calves we've all developed from walking up Alkek. But what if Texas State had a few new students? Perhaps even... the Disney princesses. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Cinderella, Belle, Elsa, Ariel, etc. were walking around campus with us? Most likely you haven't, but this article will answer those questions you've never thought to ask. I present to you what should be the newest Disney motion picture: The Semester Disney Princesses Attended Texas State University.
It's the first day of classes -- so called "syllabus day" -- and the princesses are ecstatic. None ever attended school in their movies, though they were somehow magically already educated. They cannot contain their excitement as they leave their dorms, and Anna nearly runs up the many stairs on campus. After years cooped up in a castle, she is ready to take on the world of Texas State University.
"It's like a whole new world!" Princess Jasmine giggles girlishly as she pauses at the LBJ statue.
As syllabus day progresses, the princesses are beginning to feel that maybe college won't be so hard. As the weeks pass the princesses begin to experience the ups and downs of Texas State life.
Princess Anna comes to realize that she made a terrible mistake when she registered for 8 am classes.
Snow White spends a lot of her time singing to the Squirrels, who she finds are the friendliest she's ever come to know. The only complaint she really has is that she can never seem to get fresh apples at Harris.
Cinderella also loves the squirrels and singing to the woodland creatures on campus, though she still finds herself cleaning up after her roommates.
Ariel starts to rethink her life choices as she walks up the Alkek stairs every day.
Rapunzel finds herself living in the Tower dorms -- the irony of which is not lost on her. She takes off from her dorm every chance she gets.
Slowly but surely midterms approach. Some princesses handle it better than others. Belle, for one, already spends all of her spare time at Alkek, and so the extra hours of studying don't seem to bother her.
Aurora, on the other hand, becomes a Starbucks addict. The one thing she never realized when she eagerly enrolled at Texas State was that college students didn't seem to have time to sleep once midterms came around. No longer was she sleeping -- and if you asked anyone in her 8 am, she was not always quite the beauty either.
It's a long few weeks, but the princesses make it through midterms.
Merida has begun to lose spirit, but she rallies and continues to try to raise her grades. If only all of her classes were as fun as the archery club.
Princess Tiana has by now become the hardest working student McCoy has ever seen, as she pursues her business degree in hopes learning as much as she can so her restaurant chain can flourish.
It's not all work and no play for the princesses, though. There's still Sewell Park and the San Marcos River to cheer them up if they ever need a pick-me-up.
"Winter break is just around the river bend!" Pocahontas exclaims as she kayaks the river on a warm Texas day (without realizing she's approaching the rapids).
The fun soon comes to an end, though -- finals have arrived already. Elsa tries to tutor Anna in Meteorology. "Don't be so stressed," she soothes her as Anna begins to freak out. "Just let it go. The studying never bothered me anyway."
Mulan, on the other hand, takes a different approach to studying for finals.
"Let's get down to business," Mulan says to herself, realizing she is making a mistake and that she should study. She quickly washes the ink from her arm, the memory of how badly that strategy worked out with the matchmaker shaking her back to reality.
Finals come and go, and the princesses feel they didn't do too badly. On the last day of the semester, they gather in front of the LBJ statue for one last group photo, exclaiming with joy "we did it!" It was challenging, but they made it through and had some of the best times of their lives
- The End.
So maybe you aren't a Disney princess, but there is something we can all learn from the princesses' semester at Texas State. Sometimes college can feel like a whole new world, but Jasmine teaches us that this can be a wonderful thing. Like Pocahontas and Ariel, we should embrace new experiences, no matter what is around the San Marcos river bend. We should be optimistic like Rapunzel, kind to the squirrels like Cinderella and Snow White, and never give up like Anna and Elsa. We must strive to make ourselves and our families proud like Mulan. Even when we feel sleep deprived, like Aurora, we must fight to stay awake. Like Tiana we must work hard, even though it sometimes takes courage like Merida's.
So hang in there, Bobcats -- even without fairy godmother's and magic to help us out I know we can make the best of our time at Texas State University. Eat 'em up cats.
