If I Could Talk to My Past Self

If I Could Talk to My Past Self

We all think of things we could have done differently while reminiscing our pasts. Maybe you definitely should not have worn that outfit, maybe you should have given that cute barista at the coffee shop your number, maybe there was a time you should have said something but instead, you stayed quiet. Whatever the case may be, there is at least one thing in everyone's past that they wish they would have done differently. If I could talk to my past self, warn her of what the future holds, and give her some advice, this is what I would have to say.

Past Alyssa,

Hey, it's me.

I'm going to tell you some things, and I need you to listen. We both know that that is not your strong suit, but just do it, okay?

First and foremost, stop winging your eyeliner everyday. Save your mad winging skills for special occasions. Stop plucking your eyebrows so thin. They are uneven. Also, stop wearing knee high socks. Sorry if it is hard to hear, but you do not look as cute in them as you think you do.

What I have to say next is going to be a little harder to stomach than my beauty tips.

Don't text him.

You know who I am talking about. He is not going to reply and that is going to ruin your life for, oh, I don't know, only the next nine months. He does not want to talk to you, he does not like you anymore, get over it. I promise that it is for the best. Stop taking specific routes to class so you can just so casually pass him the hallway, you are going to be late everyday. Stop crying and obsessing over which girls he follows on social media. Just stop all of it. He is not worth it. He is not even cute, and he is kind of a horrible person. You are going to find out that he had relations after you with someone you used to be close with, and it is going to feel like someone punched you in the gut, but you need to get over it. You can do it, and the quicker, the better. Besides, there is a much nicer, cuter, funnier guy sitting right behind you in la clase de Español, a boy that is not garbage. And guess what? You are going to give him your number, and you are going to fall in love with him, and everything is going to be great, I promise.

You are going to lose your best friend. When that happens, it is going to hurt really, really, badly. She was your best friend for half of your life, after all. Know that it is not your fault. It is neither of your faults. Try to stop being angry at her, try to stop forcing a friendship that is no longer there. She has changed, and you have, too, and that is fine. It's okay to cry, too, by the way.

And finally, Alyssa, I do not want to spoil too much, but the future has so many great things in store for you. You have an awesome boyfriend who loves you. You got accepted into your dream school. You have met some cool new friends in college. You declared a major that means the world to you. You finally started to get out of that dark place you were in and you realized that life is worth living and that everything is going to be okay, and you were right.

Everything is okay.

Everything is more than okay.

I am so proud of you. Right now, things are really looking up for you, kid.

Sincerely,

Present day Alyssa

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
