If Big Ten Schools Were Harry Potter Characters

The Big Ten is home to fourteen universities with all different personalities and stereotypes. Like the characters of Harry Potter, there are some we love, some we tolerate, and some we downright hate. Here's if the Big Ten was comprised of Harry Potter characters:

Penn State and Indiana University as Fred and George Weasley.

The Weasley Twins are always the life of the party. Fun-loving and master pranksters, Fred and George’s personalities perfectly align with the party scenes of Penn State and IU.

Michigan State as Draco Malfoy.

Michigan State is the worst. Because they have an amazing football and basketball team, they think they are the best school in the Big Ten even though they are lacking the academics of some of the other schools. Draco Malfoy is cocky just like Michigan State.

Illinois as Arthur Weasley.

As Head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office for the Ministry of Magic, Arthur Weasley’s occupation is seen as a joke by some, like Lucius Malfoy. He isn’t the brightest, but he has good intentions and a heart of gold. Like the University of Illinois, they’re party-school reputation and impressive Greek life often overshadows their academics.

Minnesota, Maryland and Rutgers as Neville Longbottom.

Wait, these three schools are in the Big Ten? Neville Longbottom is often underestimated by his classmates due to his shy, awkward personality even though he has plenty of potential just like Minnesota, Maryland, and Rutgers.

Purdue as Luna Lovegood.

Slightly weird but insanely intelligent, Luna Lovegood is just like the Engineers at Purdue.

Nebraska as Rubeus Hagrid.

With a mascot like the “Cornhuskers”, Hagrid is a perfect choice. Nature-loving and friendly, Hagrid and his hut would fit in the fields of Nebraska.

Iowa as Ginny Weasley.

Plain, family-oriented, and strong Midwestern values, Iowa is the muggle version of Ginny Weasley.

Wisconsin as Ron Weasley.

A great school, Wisconsin is often overshadowed by the big named schools like Michigan and Michigan State. Ron Weasley is best friends with Harry Potter and always comes second when compared to Harry.

Northwestern as Hermoine Granger.

Intelligent and always focused on her studies, Hermoine Granger is known as being Hogwarts’ bookworm. Northwestern is known as the smart school of the Big Ten and that’s pretty much it.

Ohio State as Professor Snape.

The professor everyone hates except his own house of Slytherin. Everyone hates Ohio State besides their own fan base.

Lastly, the University of Michigan as Harry Potter.

Harry’s slight arrogance may cause people to dislike him at times, but he embodies the “Leaders & Best” attitude. Intelligent, athletic, and hard-working, Harry Potter is well-rounded just like the students at the University of Michigan.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
