Is it just me or am I the only one that seems to think that idolatry is on the rise more and more in the Christian religion and not many people seem to even notice it? I'm not talking about your typical "your sports team is an idol" sort of thing, or even money is an idol. I am talking about men and women of God are placing other men and women of God above God himself.

I say this because I have caught myself in the trap as well. We are so quick to put spiritual leaders on a pedestal and think of them higher than ourselves. John Piper is a great man of God but we should not conform to be more like him, we should conform to be more like Christ. Louie Giglio is also a great pastor, but that does not mean that as a Christian I need to start wearing holes in the knees of my jeans every day to be more holy or look more Christian.

Now you might be thinking, I definitely do not fit this category and I certainly do not fit the Christian hipster stereotype that has come around but you are not freed from being guilty of this sin just yet. How many of us have gone to one of our friends to vent about an issue in hopes of godly advice before praying to God ourselves? How many of us have even gone as far as asked that person to pray for us before praying to God ourselves? We are quick to praise others about what men or women of God they are and in reality, although that is encouragement, we are doing it way more than praising God himself.

I have become so sick of hearing people saying left and right, "Wow [so-and-so] is a great man of God. I wish I could be more like him." or "I hope my husband is just like him." But let's be honest guys, these people still fail daily. You do not want to be like them and you do not want your spouse to be like them. You want yourself and your future husband or wife to be like the person inside of them and that is God.

So let's start making less of the people that follow Christ and making more of Christ himself. He deserves all the praise.

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
