The heat of the summer wipes us all out, and when you can't find the time to relax by the pool or make it to the beach sometimes you need other alternatives to cool yourself down. One of my favorite ways to do this is to suck down a milkshake or get an ice cream cone bigger than my heads, here are some of the best places to stop and grab some sweet treats this summer.

1. Curly’s Ice Cream – Riverdale NJ

An old-school shack located on Route 23 always has a line, but it's worth the wait. With flavors like raspberry cheesecake and espresso Oreo, how could you not want to pull off and stop? Only looking for a small treat? Don't worry they also serve baby cones!

2. Colonia Dairy Maid – Colonia NJ

Or, well. as my family and I like to call it... 40 Flavors. With a wide variety of flavors to choose from, there's a little something for the whole family. Looking for something different? Try their Spongebob flavor, a French Vanilla base full of chocolate candy pieces, chunks of fudgy brownie, and a swirl of fudge. Can I get a "yum"?

3. Tipsy Scoop – NYC

New York's very first, get this, barlour. Every flavor is a little below 5% ABV, but eat enough of their signature Maple Bacon Bourbon flavor and you're guaranteed to leave with a little buzz. Only if you're 21 and over, of course.

4. Bucket and Bay – Jersey City/Hoboken NJ

Farm fresh straight to a homemade cone, boozy options, and my personal favorite the Red-Eye If you're a coffee enthusiast like me then this mix of cold brew and espresso to make the perfect gelato is a must-try flavor for you.

5. Purple Cow Ice Cream – Lawrenceville NJ

Quaint and homey you'll want to plop yourself down on their porch while you enjoy your delicious sweet treat. Over 24 flavors to choose from, but a fan favorite is their namesake The Purple Cow, a yummy black raspberry ice cream with stirred in chocolate chips. You can even bring your furry little four-legged friend along to cool down with their own little "Pup Cup."

6. Big Gay Ice Cream – NYC

For the big gays, the not so gays, and everyone in between, this ice cream is delicious and it comes in various forms, it will be hard to choose what you want and how you want it. From their signature cone, the "Dorothy," a vanilla cone injected with smooth dulce de leche and coated in crushed up Nilla wafers, to their Gobblers, which take traditional pie flavors and mix them with their cool and creamy soft serve. Needless to say, you're guaranteed to find something to satisfy your sweet tooth.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
