Ice Cream Barn. Just hearing that name means it's Summer time here in Southern Massachusetts. If you ask anyone what part of the Summer is their favorite, they will undoubtedly answer the Ice Cream Barn. It opened on September 9, 2012, and although only in its fourth year, it is the trade mark of Southern New England summer. Ellie, another writer for The Odyssey, mentions it in her article "9 Signs You're From Swansea, MA" as a staple of her summer routine.
It started as the idea of three people; Tom and Jocelyn Seiter were two people who had been selling homemade ice cream with locally made ingredients to farmers markets for years, and Kenny Baker, who owned Baker's Farm, wanted to have an ice cream parlor on his six generation farm. And on September 9, those dreams were all realized.
Most nights during the Summer, you will undoubtedly see lines stretching out the door to be able to get in and taste those delicious fresh made flavors and smell the homemade waffle cones. One of my favorite parts of Ice Cream Barn is that they have glass windows around part of the counter area where you can watch them make the waffle cones from scratch and pour gooey hot fudge over the ice cream.
Although barely four years old, Ice Cream Barn had quickly become a staple of a Southern Massachusetts summer. With the ease to get there and the homey atmosphere inside, you can't help but know that Summer is here and ready to start.
