Everyone knows someone who uses essential oils, sells essential oils, or "doesn't believe" in essential oils. They are all the rage right now, especially with more and more research about toxins and the little regulation done on health and beauty products in America leading to more and more people wanting to use nontoxic products.
I have first introduced to essential oils two years ago when I asked for a diffuser for Christmas. I knew very little about them, and mainly through the idea of a diffuser that lit up and made my room smell nice was great. I got a set of six basic oils from Amazon not thinking anything of the quality of them because I was just using them to make my room smell nice. After a few days of randomly diffusing different oils, I started looking into what they were known for. My sleeping issues had not gotten to the point that they are now but I knew lavender was good for sleep so I started diffusing it nightly. I didn't notice any changes so I increased the number of drops I was using and soon ran out of lavender completely so I ordered more oils from Amazon.
That next time I ordered oils I ordered a collection of 20 commonly used ones. It was only around $30 but it had great reviews so I didn't think anything of the low price and since I was still only using the oils to diffuse. Around this time I began looking on Pinterest at ways to use different oils since I now had 20 to experiment with. I kept seeing diffuser recipes for specific Young Living blends of oils. I researched more about Young Living and found out it was a network marketing company, as well as that some bloggers I love use Young Living oils and swear by them. I decided to follow some Young Living Instagram accounts to learn more about oils in general, and I began to see the many ways people incorporated oils into their everyday lives. When I saw that Young Living even had a vitality line that was FDA approved to ingest I became convinced that my oils were probably not doing much other than smelling nice.
I researched oils that were sold on Amazon and even Whole Foods and found that they could put 100% peppermint on the label even if that were not true. So I decided in order to know if essential oils really worked I would need to get ones that I could be confident were completely essential oils and not mixed with filler. So I saved money for a couple of months and during the Black Friday sale I bought a starter kit. And I am kind of amazed at the difference. I truly thought they would just be slightly better, but they work. Digize and Stress Away are now my new best friends and I am now researching what is in all of my products and looking up DIY oil recipes for everything.
If you are thinking about oils, don't waste your money on the cheaper ones because if they aren't 100% pure therapeutic grade they most likely won't work. If you have some oils and aren't seeing results give Young Living a try. A starter kit may seem expensive but it can replace more products than you would think.
