Out of sheer curiosity, I decided to take the personality test on www.16personalities.com. Now, let me just say that I've never been a firm believer that we could or even should define ourselves as specific 'types.' We are who we are and there doesn't need to be some word to label that. Still feeling this way, this personality test did, however, give me a different perspective that I was pleasantly surprised to find.
After taking the test, my result was INFP. A personality that falls under the Diplomat group, I am a mediator.
At first, I was skeptical. When I think of a mediator, all I think of is someone who puts themselves into the middle of a fight to try and break it up. Typically, that is not me. But I wanted to give it a chance and I decided to read about the INFP personality.
About three paragraphs in, my mind was blown. Aside from a couple of things said, everything else was spot on.
A mediator is someone who always tries to find the best in people or situations. Though introverted, they have their passions that ignite their inner flame.
Reading further, more and more, it all began to make sense.
Not that I doubt who I am, but things started to click about why I am the way I am.
The results received from these tests are thorough and provide such detailed descriptions.
The section that I found to be the most accurate was the strengths and weaknesses section.
One strength of the INFP personality is creativity. Since I can remember, I have always been creative. My mind is always running one-hundred miles an hour but somehow always find something to make from it. Mediators find perspectives that others don't normally see.
A weakness that is described the mediator is that they take things personally. For anyone who knows me, they know that I am my own worst enemy. Things all need to be perfect and if they aren't, I find myself stressed and anxious about what others may think of it.
This little experiment was eye-opening and if you want to maybe learn some more about yourself or are just curious about what 'type' you are, go for it. You may uncover things you never realized before.
