Dancing is a beautiful thing. It is interesting to watch and takes a lot of talent and hard work. There are so many hours of practice put into each and every little movement. It is an art that is easily taken for granted.
There are a lot of people who think that dancing is easy and that anybody can do it. Those people are most likely referring to the type of dancing you see at a party or a concert. There is a huge difference between the type of dancing at a party and the type of dancing you see on a stage. The dancing you see at parties is just moving your body to the beat of the music, and that is only a fraction of a part of the type dancing that is seen on a stage. There are blood, sweat, and tears put into a single dance piece performed on stage. A three-minute song takes months of hard work and preparation. There is a lot of thought and effort put into every single movement. You have to think of the transitions that go into each step.
Dancing takes dedication. Working hours on end to perfect one piece. Every single step practiced over and over again until every single one of them is perfected. It takes broken bones and pulled muscles to learn and grow as a dancer, as a performer, but it is well worth it. Some say dancing is not a sport; those people have never truly danced a day in their life.
A dancer is an artist, just like a musician or a painter, they express themselves through their body movements. They are able to tell their story without even speaking a single word. They can express any emotion, love, anger, happiness, fear, or sadness. It is a way of letting things go. It is a beautiful way of showing others how you feel. It is a way to blow off steam, to relieve stress and anxiety. Performing what I love to do most in front of people, including my friends and family, is the greatest feeling.
Dancing is not something I just enjoy doing, it is a part of me, it is part of who I am. Without dance, life would be pretty difficult. It is the way that I have learned to express myself best. I have been injured a countless number of times and have broken a few bones. I have laughed and cried. Dance has helped form the person I have become. I have grown and learned a lot through dance. It has helped me form relationships and grow closer to people that I care about. If they are not dancing beside me, they are in the audience cheering me on, and that is something I am always appreciative of.
In the last few years, I have not been dancing as much as I would like to, but that does not mean I do not love it any less. It will forever and always be a part of who I am. It is always in my blood.
