For the majority of my life, I would get up early in the morning to curl my hair. I have really thick hair, so it took a lot of time to make my hair look just right. Last year, I decided to try and get my natural waves back. For the past year my hair had nice, beachy waves. As quarantine progressed, I started to feel trapped by my long hair, so I decided to cut it. I did a pretty good job for a quarantine haircut, but I digress.
I thought that my hair would keep its natural curl when I cut it, but my hair lost its volume and curl. I kept hearing about wave perms online and I decided to try it out.
For those of you who don't know, wave perms aren't your average 1980s horror story. Wave perms aim to give someone permanent beach waves, not curls.
I wasn't completely convinced when I made my appointment, but I figured it couldn't be worse than the flat state my hair was in. I have shoulder length hair and the process took a little over two hours. The process was relatively painless: the chemicals were strong and gave me a minor headache.
Overall, I am very happy with how my perm turned out. If you have fine hair and need some volume (or you would like to look like a character on Outer Banks), I highly recommend getting a wave perm.
