This morning, I was among the 65% of people who experienced a frightening encountered. I heard over 20 + stories and watched TV shows, but never in a million years, would I think, I would have Sleep Paralysis. This is a sleep disorder, that causes you not to have any access to the movement of muscles or to voice your thoughts. This happens just when you are starting to wake up and it usually lasts between a minute or two. Certain people have unspeakable occurrences, while others have no problem through the process. Half of the time, you will undergo intense anxiety, because you want to move your body. Hallucinations can also occur.
This is not serious, but it can be spine-chilling, so I did research, to better understand what exactly happened. I found out that the main cause of this is lack of sleep and not setting a sleep schedule. There is no treatment, but you can start by going to sleep and waking up at the same time so that you can have a routine. Try not to drink coffee before you go to bed, this will cause you to have Insomnia. Eliminate stress and aim for new sleeping positions.
I felt myself, starting to wake up, but not all the way. My eyes were open but it felt like I was in a dream, just waiting. The first thing I noticed was that I was not able to get up. Laying on my back, I tried reaching for my nightstand but I was just frozen in the same position. I soon realized that my mouth was open, so I tried moving my tongue up and down, closing my mouth, and screaming for my mom, but absolutely nothing. All this was going on while a ringing noise was sounding off. I kept going in and out, anticipating my body movement.
Slowly but surely, I was coming out of it. Since the start of this, I wanted my tongue to move, because I thought it would be a quicker muscle to get going. There is no way you can personally get yourself out of this, but when I felt it moving, that is when I started to move my whole body. I stared at the wall for a good minute to regain my thoughts. I turned over on my side, said a quick prayer and went back to sleep.
"I tried to close my eyes again and put all my energy into trying to wake up and move my body. Eventually, the sound in my ears faded away and the pressure eased and I was able to move again. I manage to jerk my head and everything disappears, and I'm alone in the darkness, incredibly shaken but glad it wasn't real. Honestly, one of the scariest situations in my life and it wasn't even real."
Don't fear sleep paralysis, let it happen and you will eventually ease out of it. This will have the good and bad experiences, but the way you go about it is all up to you...
