Is Hypocrisy The New American Culture?

We're all responsible for it. We all can change it.

Is Hypocrisy The New American Culture?
East Bay Times

Let me start by clearing the air for anyone who is about to look for a reason to get insulted. This article is not specifically for liberals or for conservatives, blacks or whites, immigrants or natives. It isn't to target or name call or shame a certain group. This is something for everyone, no matter your gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation, because even though we all like to dispute it, when it comes down to it, we are ALL a part of this country. And in reality, we are ALL playing a part in the hypocrisy that is plaguing America.

Why is it that voters complain about the inability of Congress to get anything done, and then continue to vote for the same representatives? Every two years we have the opportunity to flush out the toxic waste that does not deserve to represent our country, though very few states seize the opportunity...

Why is it that Republicans shame Hillary Clinton for her behind-the-scenes actions, yet concoct their own collection of secretive plots? President Trump has done some shady things that he and his party have tried to cover up -- so it is puzzling as to why conservatives act like they are superior over Democrats...

Why is it that progressives claim they are "tolerant", but stage violent protests against conservative speakers and bash anyone who has different ideas from them? I thought people who are "supportive of all types of groups and promote inclusivity" were supposed to...well...do just that...

Why is it that white people are considered racist towards blacks, but black people aren't considered racist towards whites? It confuses me how someone stereotyping a black girl with attacks on her character is discrimination, while someone using words like basic and white trash to describe white girls is funny...

Why is it that people claim to put emphasis on supporting those struggling with mental illnesses, yet taking a sick day for anxiety or depression is not common practice at offices? A physical injury and a mental one should be viewed in the same category...

Why is it that some women play "the woman card" and then act like this should give them a leg up? I thought the point of feminism was equality for both genders...

None of these questions are easily answered. You shouldn't claim to stand for something and then turn around to completely contradict it. And no, there's not one specific group to blame, not one certain type of person who is at fault. To put it simply, perhaps the source of a lot of these issues comes from the fact that we all a) have a hard time being wrong and/or b) fail to look at conflicts from the other point of view.

It's human nature to trust your word before anyone else's. However, there comes a point when you become blind. Open mindedness is a gift that all of us have, but very few use. Why are there so many double standards that we put in place to benefit our own selves?

Whenever I am faced with a conflict, I always come back to the quote that we all had ingrained in our minds in elementary school - "take a walk in someone else's shoes." View a situation from the other side's point of view. Think about how you would act in the opposite end of a scenario. Ask yourself, "Would it be okay if another person did this?" Sometimes we have to go back to the basics that we have forgotten since elementary school.

In the end, no one person is more important than another, regardless of power, money, or race. I think sometimes we get so caught up in politics that we forget that we are all humans striving for the same thing: love and success. We have different ways of getting to the same places, and that's okay, but it certainly does not mean we should give ourselves special rules to get there.

I'm sure, like me, many of you received lots of gift cards over the holidays. After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. Here are some times when you should be nicer to retail workers than you actually are!

5 Untold Struggles Of The Short Friend

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
