"God Bless" Tomi Lahren

As a Christian Conservative, I have a problem with Tomi Lahren

This last year, America has been in a constant state of chaos. There have been ups and downs, more downs than ups, and we are all a little motion sick. In a time where we are all looking for direction, where we are all trying to figure out what values we hold dearest to ourselves, it seems that the people who talk the loudest are the ones who are heard. But should we listen to them?

Tomi Lahren is a well known, or well heard, conservative political commentator. She is popular for her hot-tempered personality, how she is unafraid to cross the line and keep running, and her pride in saying all the things people are offended by today, according to her. There is no doubt that Tomi is both educated and passionate about politics, but sometimes she is yelling so loudly, it is hard to hear what she is trying to say.

Her recent video titled "Woman's March on Reality", sums up the March to be nothing more than women playing the victim card. She goes on to further tear apart the March, as well as those who participated. She states that the women who participated in the March "dismiss any woman who does not think like them", while she talks over the voices of the millions of women who participated. She has nothing positive to say about the March and all those affiliated for three minutes and four seconds. She speaks with so much resentment, hate, and volume. But then it is time for her sign off, and her voice mellows, her demeanor changes, and she says "God Bless and Take Care".

In all honesty, I am a conservative and I align very similarly with Tomi Lahren when it comes to policy. However, America is not about policy, America is about the people first and foremost. Policy will change, almost on the dot every eight years, however, the people continue to be the same. As a Conservative Christian, when Tomi Lahren signs off with "God Bless", I cringe.

She spends minutes spewing out nothing but hate and resentment about groups of millions of people. While there are people who wholeheartedly agree with her opinions, there are so many more who feel hated, who feel judged, and who feel unwelcome in this country because of her videos. While she has the right to say all of these things, when she signs off with "God Bless", she exemplifies hypocrisy.

In the Bible, Luke tells his apostles while standing on level ground with them: "27 But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you" (Luke 6:27-28).

The Bible calls us all to love all people and that judgment is God's job, not ours, and definitely not Tomi's. So Tomi, while you are spewing hate, spreading judgment, and sitting behind your desk in a studio, know there are other ways to spread messages. Level yourself to the people around you, speak to them kindly and with compassion because others do not just hear those people, they listen to them.

For those who watch her videos and feel judged, I am sorry. I am sorry that the person who yells the loudest is the first heard. I am sorry that she is what you equate Christian Conservatives to be. I promise, you are welcome in this country, you are valued, and regardless of where you stand politically, you are always loved.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
