6 Ways You Can Follow The Hygge Lifestyle This Holiday Season

As the weather gets colder and the leaves start to change we are all looking for a way to stay warm and relaxed. Hygge is a Danish term for taking pleasure from the simple, cozy things in life and the company of friends. It’s a mixture of coziness, charm, security, familiarity, comfort, kinship, simpleness, and cozy contentment. My mother introduced this idea, and now I have transformed my home into the hygge lifestyle. Hygge is about simplifying life, a feeling of cozy, being aware of a good moment, lingering over an evening with friends, and stopping to enjoy the simple pleasures…

1. Soft lighting

Lots of flickering candles, warm-tonedlamps, and fairy lights bring a feeling of warmth and coziness

2. Cozy furnishing

Throw cushions and sofa blankets in soft textures to decorate or wrap yourself in, rugs on bare floors

3. Warm Drinks

Drink mugs of hot chocolate, tea in proper china teacups, flasks of coffee on your table

4. Clothes

Wear thick cozy socks, oversized knitted jumpers and cardigans, pajamas and fluffy slippers.

5. Family and friends

Plan cozy nights with friends and family, get out the board games, eat around the table, or spend time in front of a roaring fire.

6. Switch off

Turn those phones and TVs off, read books and newspapers, talk, and listen to music.

“The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life” This is a quote from William Morris, and he is exactly right. Hygge is all about being present with the ones you love in the coziest way. So, I challenge you to transform your home into a fairy’s garden, turn your electronics off, and really get to know the people in your life. You have one life to live, why not live a beautiful and authentic life.
