Hurricanes can be underestimated which can lead to deadly accidents, as many of the states experienced last year. From what I can see online, it is expected to be an above average season this year. Please, everyone, be safe. Even though I am writing this as a funny piece about getting annoyed by my husband’s updates, know that it is very important to be prepared.
Do I have to hear the forecast again? I understand your excitement and concern, I really do, but I need a break from the five-minute alerts, please. One more alert, and I swear I am going to scream. I try to keep my calm though.
Even though I want to scream, hurricane season also reminds me of my son when I was pregnant with him. You see, I was pregnant with my son when Hurricane Matthew hit right near Beaufort, SC. It did not hit exactly at Beaufort, but it was very close since the storm moved up the coastline.
My scheduled C-section was supposed to be on October 6th, my grandfather’s birthday. Since a C-section is an elective surgery they told me I could not have one done because of the Hurricane and rescheduled me for the 11th instead. We decided to stay in town since I was worried I may go into labor while on the road; plus, my doctor stayed behind so we felt confident in that decision.
We hoped the hurricane would not trigger me going into labor since who knew how long it would be before an ambulance could get to us with all the down power lines. We survived the hurricane and once it passed, we drove home. Johnny, my husband, stopped every five minutes to ask me if I was going into labor. I am so glad I did not go into labor during the hurricane.
