I am a huge lover of all things "Hunger Games."
I am the first to ship Peeta and Katniss.
I am the first to throw the book at the wall and cry myself into a ball.
I am the first and not the last to HATE Gale.
I LOVE THESE BOOKS, I really can't say it enough.
Everyone that knows me knows I can recite these books forwards and backwards.
These books quickly became my life my sophomore year of high school and I couldn't put them down- and I refuse to believe my favorite series is over.
As the movies came out people would always ask me what my thoughts were on the movies- well here's my thoughts on just the first segment.
It didn't impress me- at all.
1. THE READING OF THE TREATY OF TREASON
The movie opens up with an interview with the game maker and than the treaty of treason is read out on screen like a Star Wars movie. This is for the purpose of the non-book readers so they can be up to date on what the heck is going on. Yes it was necessary for the people who didn't read the books but than again all of us who did read the book were sitting here like okay we know this get on with the movie.
2. The obvious missing of Madge Undersee
If you read the books- Madge was a big part of the books. She played an important role in the books. She was the mayors daughter and was very wealthy so her name was never put in the pool for the Hunger Games. She gives Katniss strawberries on the day of the reaping and Gale gets a little prissy when she says she wants to look pretty if she gets picked for the Capitol.... Which brings me to my next mistake..
3. THE GIVING OF THE MOCKINGJAY PIN
After Katniss volunteered for her sister, Madge comes to see her to say goodbye. She asks Katniss if she will accept a token (the pin) from District 12 and if she will wear it. Katniss accepts it and Madge convinces her with a kiss on the cheek that they have always been friends. We learn in the next book that the pin had been a family heirloom- but this is about the Hunger Games so that's irrelevant.
4. No Haymitch falling scene
In the book the first time we meet Haymitch is when he drunkenly falls off stage at the reaping. I always found this part funny and how it was such a classic first impression of their soon to be mentor.
5. District gifts
In the book it is told that each tribute can and should have a little piece of home that they can bring into the games. But it is kind of written off as Cinna pins Katniss' mockingjay pin on the inside portion of her jacket and "Shh's" her. Is this a secret? In the book this was allowed.
6. The Cornucopia
The cornucopia was supposed to be Gold- simple as that- not silvery. Is this gold? No.
7. TRACKER JACKER EXPLANATION (OMG)
Again, for the non book reader who doesn't know what Tracker Jacker Venom is- Ceaser Flickerman has to LITERALLY come out of the woods sporting a ridiculous cane and let us all know what Tracker Jacker Venom is and all about what it can do to me like a cheesy infomercial.
8. PEETA'S LEG (I can not stress this enough)
In the book when they are announced victors of the games and taken away, Peeta's wounds are so bad that they have to amputate his leg. This plays a HUGE part in the coming books, HUGE! This to me was the worst mistake yet because I just didn't understand why they didn't do this in the movie. I get that they have to keep it PG-13 but they didn't have to SHOW the scene- just make sure it's known. This disappointed me so much and I'm very upset and heated by this.
And last but certainly not the least-
9. The stupid cat
How hard is it to get an orange cat? Luckily they fixed themselves in the next movie but still... really???
Those are just the "unforgivable" mistakes that I just can not forget from that first installment. I sincerely feel like they rushed this so they could get it out there and make money. But than it ended up just making a bunch of die hard fans unhappy. But thank goodness for the next 3 movies, am I right?
