Why "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" Is The Greatest Disney Movie Of All Time
Reddit.com

December and Disney seem to go hand in hand, so I figured for the entire month of December I'll be talking nothing, but Disney. There is no better place to start than discussing the greatest Disney movie ever made, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

All I want to accomplish with this article is to get at least one person to re-watch "Hunchback of Notre Dame." For, it is not only the greatest Disney film ever made, but it is the most underrated Disney movie ever made. Why? Here's why.

I think the biggest reason why most people don't view or remember "Hunchback" positively is because it went over our heads as a kid. Stuff like, "Lion King" or "Beauty and The Beast" is way more accessible to children than "Hunchback" is. However, like a fine wine, age helps reveal the inner greatness of "Hunchback."

"Hunchback" is the most mature movie Disney has ever made and it is not even close. Not to say it's not for kids, quite the opposite. This is a movie that kids desperately need to watch and examine. It's just not as sugar coated at the other films in the Disney library are. "Hunchback" tackles themes and ideas such as, religion, belonging, acceptance and the balance between good and evil. Far more mature and complex than love and growing up.

I have no idea how Disney pulled this movie off. They really didn't treat kids like idiots, they treated them like smart individuals and didn't shield them from some of the very real issues of the world. All Quasimodo has known is cruelty. His mother was murdered brutally by the person who grew to apprehensively raise him, in one of the most chilling opening numbers in musical history. Seriously, "The Bells of Note Dame" gives me chills every time I hear it. It could work as it's own separate short film. Quasimodo was raised to be ashamed of how he looks and is frequently called a monster by the monster who raised him. However, he does not have an evil bone in his body. He remains one of the sweetest and innocent characters in Disney. All he wants is acceptance from a world who is unwilling to give it. His whole quest is to prove who he isn't a monster and not be seen as one. If you were ever in outcast in life, it's impossible not to relate to him.

The villain, Frollo, is perfectly written, performed and executed. He is a religious zealot who constantly makes excuses for his cruelty, by using religion. He lusts after a gypsy and plans to send her to hell if she does not sleep with him. His justification is that by choosing him, she will stop being a witch and be absolved of all sin. If she does not give in to him, she belongs in the depths of hell. The creepy bastard even pulls her by the arm and forcibly smells her hair. Can you believe a character like that is in a Disney film? That right there is a villain. That creates the dynamic of good and evil. Frollo uses a general good practice and makes it evil. That makes him complex. He isn't just wanting a position of power or glory. He just is conflicted by his lust for someone he is forbidden to love. He truly believes he is doing the lords work, when really he is doing the opposite.

Also, Quasimodo does not end up with his love interest. She falls in love with another lead character, breaking his heart. That is also a real lesson kids kind of need to take in. You aren't always going to be with the person you want to be with. However, Quasimodo found acceptance from her, which is what he is looking for. He also found a friend, which is something he has always wanted. Just because you can't be romantically with someone, doesn't mean you can't be important to each other.

Taking the lessons out of it, the music is top notch. "The Bells of Notre Dame" is as epic as it gets. It really sets the stage for the massive tale you are about to watch. "Out There" is the most uplifting Disney song you'll ever hear. Forget "Let It Go" and go listen to "Out There." "Hellfire" is the single greatest Disney song in history and it's not even close. I can't even begin to describe it's genius. So, I'll just show you.

So, instead of watching "Lion King" for the one millionth time. Give this a re-watch and let it dazzle you. It would be a perfect movie if it wasn't for those damn unfunny gargoyles in the movie. However, if I can look over them, you can. "Hunchback of Notre Dame" is a damn near perfect movie that is more than worth your time.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
