Hippocrates postulated that four humors existed within the body—phlegm, blood, yellow bile, and black bile. What's quite humerus is that those fluids don't have to be in balance for us to laugh at a corny joke—in fact, the more unbalanced the humor, the better the jokes told and understood. So let me tell you why humor is, without doubt, the best sense.
1. You can annoy the heck out of your friends
Arguably the most important reason— isn't it fun to simply kick back and watch your friends try to understand your joke and see their facial expressions suddenly change as they cringe at the thought of having met you? It's one of life's daily pleasures.
2. You sound like you're making sense even when you're not
It's like you're showing someone a complex mathematical proof that you know makes no sense but to them it's impressive.
3. You can remember the concepts from class very quickly
As I mentioned in a previous post of mine, you can always remember something better if you understand just how it works or what happened. How does one understand it? Make jokes! It not only helps you but everyone else who hears and cringes at it!
4. You make your eyeballs experience less pressure
Get it? Aqueous humor?
5. Your life becomes far more interesting
I'm pretty sure that if you can find humor in most daily aspects of life that most people wouldn't look for, it makes you realize just how awesome the world is.
6. You can make your problems a lot more bearable
Laughing at a joke helps provide relief from any problems you might be currently facing. It's good to cheer up when you're down!
7. You can make new friends!
Humor is an amazing way to break the ice, so bust open that funny bone and chip away!
8. You can claim a temporary air of superiority over your friends
It works so well when your friends don't get a joke with a seemingly obvious answer and you become the smart one for a while (keep in mind that this can backfire if the person does get the joke, in which case they're the smart one!)
9. You can laugh at yourself extremely easily!
If you're ever being bullied or simply teased, a good way to avoid taking remarks personally is to simply laugh them off. Therefore, people can only be laughing with you, not at you!
10. Your teachers will like you more (results will vary)
Of course, this depends on the teacher, but if you're sure the teacher likes jokes and you can craft a witty joke in good taste, the teacher wouldn't have a reason to not like you. However, don't overdo this, and this can quickly get annoying, so be careful.
11. You'll be able to think on your feet much faster
Making and executing jokes and puns requires practice, and if you practice enough, you can make a joke and/or witty comeback that's original and imaginative on the spot.
I hope you've all enjoyed these tips on why humor is the best sense. Although it doesn't let you see like your eyes do, it does in a way let you C++ the "Hello, world!" and Ctrl-F your way to being a pun master.
