A Humble Thank You Letter

Consistently, no matter what time of day or night it is. When I leave the house to answer a call for the fire department, the dog rises with me and walks with me to the door and watches in the window as I race off to the emergency. Whether it be ten minutes later or two hours later she is there waiting for me at the door. It hasn't come to me until recently the deeper meaning of this. That she knows every time that series of loud beeps happens that her owner is running off into a dangerous world to help a complete stranger. At first, I was a taken back by it. It really made me realize the severity and seriousness of what I do and what it means to the people around me and more importantly my family. This past year I answered close to 500 alarms for my department. Almost 500 times my dog walked with me to the door and watched me go to perform god’s work and wait for me to come back safe and sound all in one piece. Someone once said that every time that bell rings if you don’t think about what you are running away from, then you are crazy. Now, every time that beeps come, I think about how she will be waiting for me at the door when I come home. It is humbling to know and say that I have impacted many people whether it was taking them to the hospital because they wrecked their car or if it was reviving a man from a heart attack. The one thing I never expected to humble me the most was this. The realization of how much my family, even my dog, will wait as I go out and do what I what I do. From the CPR calls to the elderly lady who fell and cannot get up, they have waited for me to walk through that door in one piece. In turn, if I can speak for all firefighters, EMT’s, Police Officers and other first responders, I would like to personally thank you for the fact that you have been there for us as we race off to do what we do and that it doesn’t go underlooked. I would also like to add that, you are in our minds, every time we go through the door. For all of this, Thank you.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
