It was a calm, sunny August afternoon at a Starbucks as I waited to meet up my friend Enoch Dollison. When he arrived, he had this warm energy and you could feel he was excited to be here telling me about his passion for music. Enoch Dollison is a 22-year-old that just graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors of Health Science. When he's not writing music or DJ'ing, you can find him watching sports or at the beach. I sat back with him and asked a few questions about his DJ'in career.
Q: What type of music do you produce?
I create electronic music and hip-hop.
Q: What got you into music?
Well, back when I was a kid, my parents had this old Macintosh and I found this program where you can make music so I decided to try it out and fell in love with it.
Q: Who do you look up to in the House industry?
I listen to all kinds of people. I've been listening to Dylan Francis and Green Velvet. I currently love Sudden Death, he's newer and bringing dubstep back.
Q: Do you have the same feeling of creating music as listening to the house music whether in your car or at concerts?
I can be in the car and still feel like I'm at a concert when the energy is really high. I'll listen to my favorite songs in the car.
Q: Do you think music genres and the way people create is becoming more open/fluid a good thing?
I feel that all the genres coexist, I never thought that emo rap would be cool and different but it is! Artists understand that everyone listens to different types of music now.
Q: What have been your goals in 2018 for your music?
It's been weird transitioning going from school cause I just graduated to getting back into the music lifestyle to find incomes. I use that as a time to find myself creatively and getting promoted. I am currently creating this song based off Migos and Soulja Boy "Unload the Draco" and I'm excited to share it.
Q: How has the self-branding aspect been?
I'm getting used to using the internet as a brand. I mostly use SoundCloud. It's necessary to self-brand.
Q: How has the access to sites like SoundCloud and music technology changed the way you're able to produce?
It's way easier because I can upload ideas and clips and get feedback. The promotion aspect is broad because it's so much easier these days to get your content out there.
Q: What can you say to someone that wants to get into the producing/creative arts?
They should run it through the basics and hit the ground running. You have to realize that you are an artist and what you make is valuable even if one person or thousands of people hear it.
You can listen to some of his music here.
