Humanity as we know it will likely survive until the death of our sun, or if nothing is done to stop the effects of climate change, we could likely face extinction due to more frequent extreme weather and natural disasters.
However, if we focus our collective technologies on space travel, we may be able to find and inhabit a Goldilocks planet-one that is Earth-like. To us, there are almost an incomprehensible amount of galaxies and planets in the universe; the likelihood that we are the only intelligent lifeforms out there capable of space travel is incredibly small.
Assuming we can assimilate with any other species and peacefully coexist within the universe, we can survive until the stars die out. Eventually, all of the stars will die. And thus the universe will become a cold, dark place void of life.
But perhaps we could survive through another means. A YouTube channel named Kurzgesagt explained how we could perhaps use black holes to harness unlimited energy. Though, as they explain, such a device could be used to create the universe's largest bomb. Watch the video here:
But we have bigger things to worry about. The threat of climate change is one that we are sleeping on. The world has taken big strides towards mitigating its effects, but the US has a dangerous stance on the matter.
While Britain, India and France pledged to ban sales of new gas and diesel cars by 2030 at the earliest, the current US administration doesn't even acknowledge the existence of human-caused climate change. This kind of reckless thinking causes an anti-science mindset in newer generations and only benefits the current wealthy.
It boggles my mind that these companies would rather keep doing what they're doing than to invest in alternative energy-which could be far more profitable for years beyond their own life.
