Do you guys remember when "Take Me To Church" first came out? Wayyyyy back in 2013? And everyone went nuts over it? Like who was this magical Irishman singing gospel-ish rock? We've never heard anything like this and we need more, where is it? Because that was my reaction, and even though to this day that one, self-titled album is the only album we've gotten from Hozier, it immediately became my favorite album of all time.
"Take Me To Church," "Someone New," and "From Eden" got plenty of well-deserved radio play but some of the album's most beautiful tracks (like the morbidly bluesy "It Will Come Back," the charming "Like Real People Do," and the distorted and summery-sounding "Jackie and Wilson") never got their time to shine. I still remember my teenaged self-strumming along on my acoustic to the vinyl recording of "The Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene," training my fingers to remember the album because I think even then I had the sense that there wasn't going to be another one for a while.
And there wasn't. Four years have come and gone since the 2014 album dropped, and the internet continues to ask... Where is Hozier?
The man is a self-proclaimed perfectionist, and told fans he would absolutely be releasing more music, but that he wanted to take his time with it and make sure he got it just right before we all got to hear it. And to be fair, we did get a single in 2016, "Better Love," that helped tide us over. But some fans are still a bit testy about being made to wait so long.
But after all of that waiting, it looks like we finally have something on the way... Hozier announced last week via Instagram that he was "cooking up something secret" at Chicago Recording Company.
Now, the post was made April 1st (April Fool's Day), so this could all be a very horribly cruel joke. But I'm choosing to be optimistic, especially since Hozier has been telling fans an album was in the works since last year. Hopefully this is for real, and we'll finally be getting that long-awaited second album.
