How Writing Can Enrich Your Life

For the past few weeks, I have had time to think about a lot of things that are going on in my life and how this all came to be. I thought about my family, friends, hobbies and goals. One of the main things that I was able to conclude is that writing is perfect for me. Throughout my 20 years of living, being able to express my feelings and ideas by my writing has always remained a constant passion of mine. There are many reasons why I started and continue to write, so here's why.

Writing stirs your imagination.

When I was young, maybe 5 or 6, I started creating stories that I wrote for my family members and teachers. I would write about my dog, my imaginary friend Sheila, or sand crabs on the beach. I would illustrate and draw pictures on printer paper that I stapled together and gave them as a gift to my grandma or my favorite first-grade teacher. Throughout my early years, I was able to be as imaginative as I wanted to create a story to make someone I love smile. It always gave me so much joy to hear these people tell me how much they loved my little books. Even now as a college student I still have the ability to use my imagination and generate so many new ideas that inspire others and make them happy.

Writing is therapeutic.

I think everyone knows this but sometimes, life gets tough. At times, it can be hard to get through certain obstacles in our way or even understand what's going on. For me, being able to write everything down makes it all become so real and easier to understand. It gives me the opportunity to put all of my feelings out and receive a sense of relief because of it. Whether I'm happy or sad, I can write about why I feel these emotions or what I want to change about these feelings. It also helps organize your thoughts and plan out goals that you want to achieve. All in all, writing calms me down when I'm stressed, opens up my mind when I'm conflicted, and heals me when I'm struggling. Writing is my therapy.

Writing inspires.

One of the main reasons why writing is such a passion of mine is because having the ability to inspire people is such a rewarding feeling. Knowing that you could possibly change someone's life with your ideas or story is just such am amazing feeling. We all share our opinions, past experiences and goals with the world and, if we're lucky, inspire others to change their ways or follow their dreams. Personally, I've read so many articles or books that have completely changed my outlook on life and who I want to be. If you really think about how many lives you have possibly affected because you shared your story, that's a pretty great feeling. Writing gives everyone the opportunity to inspire and motivate people all across the world.

Writing connects us together.

I've been writing for The Odyssey for about five or six months now and, from what I've experienced, it's such a blessing to work for a network that is viewed by millions of people throughout the world. I've had a few articles that got many shares and I was able to read all of the positive feedback from people who don't even know me. Along with that, this platform brings together more than 6,000 writers from so many different places. We're able to connect globally and write about all of our unique perspectives. How cool is that? We all share the same passion of writing and get to share so many new ideas and experiences with each other. I think it's always important to learn more about people that share a common passion as you so that you can learn more about how to write and who you are as a writer. We communicate with others and broaden our horizons every single day.

Writing is fun.

Simple enough, right? Writing is just such a fun way to express yourself. Some of the most interesting and exciting classes I have ever taken have been writing intensive classes, such as creative writing and professional writing. We learn so many new ways to write while earning credit for the class, so that's pretty awesome. Writing opens our eyes to an entirely different world and provides us with a source of entertainment. Honestly, I just enjoy life so much more if I'm able to write about it. I get to plan out my dreams and get to set those goals to motivate me every single day. Or I write about my past experiences so that I will never forget them. Being a writer gives me great pleasure for so many different reasons, and I'm sure you'd enjoy it also.

With all of this in mind, I encourage anyone who reads this to be a writer. You don't have to get a job in the industry, of course, but write as a hobby. Start to think about your passions or goals and write them down. Compose your thoughts on one piece of paper and put yourself out there. It is such an amazing experience to write creatively and express your feelings. Writing can expand your horizons and broaden your ideas in so many different ways. Inspire others, connect globally and have fun. Write.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
