How to Understand Girls 101
Huffington Post

You are about to read the Bible on girls. The 13 commandments on how girls work. The yellow brick road to a girl’s brain. The light at the end of that confusing, whirlwind tunnel we call girls. I’ll be the first to admit that we are so confusing and, sometimes, I don’t even understand other girls. But here are 13 ways guys can understand girls. Or at least try to.

1. We don't compartmentalize.

What does that huge word that you just sounded out mean? Well, it means that if a man has a bad day, they (usually) forget about it the next day. But for girls--oh dear lord, it’s much worse. We normally over-dramatize the situation and make it much worse for ourselves than it truly is. It affects everything--our mood, interactions, how we do our makeup, what we eat. Give us a month and we’ll finally be over it.

2. Social media is our life.

The tweets, posts, shares, followers….we love it all. Social media and girls have a special bond; it understands us and we understand it. Quite frankly, we’re in a pretty serious relationship with social media. Instagram is probably the most important for you boys to understand. If we ask you what filter to use, you need to be honest. You should also know that if we want to post a group picture, we will choose the filter that we look best in, because we want to stand out. That's how we were created!

3. We stalk and we stalk well.

Bringing it back to social media, we girls are seriously the greatest investigators. We can literally find anything and everything. Some say it’s a curse, but we say it’s a blessing.God gave us a talent to stalk on social media and we have to use that for the greater good. Of course we’re going to know your great uncle’s neighbor’s step brother twice removed cat died before you even know. We love social media.

4. Don't ever, for any reason, ask if we're on our period.

Nothing pisses a girl off more than you questioning her menstrual cycle. How about you boys try bleeding for a week straight and tell us how it feels? Between all those emotions running crazy and the food we indulge in, it's an intense week to say the least. Even though it’s not fun, it’s actually super rewarding each month because we high-five ourselves for not being preggo.

5. We cry...a lot.

Yo, I don’t know why we cry so much. Maybe because women’s bodies aren’t capable of holding that much water so we have to release it any way we can? But please, if we’re crying, let us cry, give us a hug, rub our back and say “it’ll be okay” then give us chocolate (us girls love chocolate). Also, don’t make us feel bad for crying. We have emotions and it’s a beautiful thing to show that.

6. It's never actually "fine."

For the love of god, don’t think its fine. Nothing is fine if a girl says “it's fine.” "It’s fine" and "do what you want" are things you boys never want to hear come out of a girl's mouth. If we say that, you better be prepared because your world is about to be rocked.

7. We always go to the bathroom with someone.

The bathroom is a scary place and there is almost always a line. You would think that since there is always a line for the girl’s room, that they would make them bigger. We want someone to come with us because what if we fall in? Who is there to help us? No one. Who are we going to talk to while standing in line? No one. Who are we going to take a bathroom selfie with? No one. We need our girlfriends for supervision and entertainment.

8. Our best friends know everything.

It’s written in the Girl Constitution that regardless if a man tells you not to tell anyone, that does not apply to your best friends. We tell our best friends everything, no matter what. It’s girl code. You boys will unload your problems onto us and we need to unload those problems onto someone else, so we do so to our best friends.

9. Everyone is our best friend.

We girls call everyone our best friends. Regardless if we’re drunk or sober. Talked to that girl in the bathroom pounding down shots of tequila? Yeah, we’re best friends. That girl that told me my boots are cute? Yup, BFFs. Don’t ask to name just one best friend either. We have different best friends for different situations. We want to party, we call our party best friends. We want to lay around and eat Cheetos, we call our chill best friends. We need someone to study with, we call our smart best friends. See? It’s all about balance.

10. We will test you.

On everything. For example, when we say “Oh, I love her bag!” the proper response is always, “Yours is so much better.” Or when we say, “You don’t have to get us anything for Valentine’s Day” we’re partly kidding but also serious because nothing is more exciting than getting something from their man. Girls have a three-strike system; you fail one of our tests, you get a strike. We test you because we want to know if you can handle all of us.

11. Asking where to eat is a test itself.

We have a tendency to tell boys they can choose where to eat, but then we get mad when it’s not where we wanted to go. We girls are really good at making facial expressions. When guys list places to eat, watch our face before we respond. If we make a disgusted face, we obviously don’t want to eat there but if we raise our eyebrows or our eyes get wider, that is definitely where we want to eat.

12. We take "beauty is pain" literally.

We wax, shave, do outrageous things to our bodies to be skinny, pluck, pull and dye just to conform to this definition of beauty. We don’t only do this because society has made it seem like we have to in order to be defined as beautiful, but because it makes us feel good inside. Like when we have freshly waxed eyebrows, just got our hair highlighted and new nails on, we feel like we’re unstoppable and confident. Nothing is sexier than a women who is confident, so let us pamper ourselves.

13. We honestly don’t have anything to wear.

Girls are very picky on what they wear every day. Every day is different for us and sometimes things that fit last week don’t look good this week. So when we say “I don’t have anything to wear” know that we have clothes to wear, just not clothes to wear for that certain day. Sometimes what we wore yesterday looks and feels so much better today.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September.
