Treat Yo' Self!

How To Treat Yourself Without Breaking The Bank

College is a stressful time of life. Everyone deserves a chance to relax, but vacations are hard to come by when you have a paper due every five seconds. So, this article is for anyone who doesn't have a ton of time or money to dedicate to treating themselves. Here are some ways to treat yourself without breaking the bank!

Take yourself out to dinner.

This is probably the most expensive thing in this article. It doesn't have to be anywhere nice, but don't let the fear of weird looks discourage you from enjoying a nice meal and some time alone. If you really want to feel fancy, dress up! Do your makeup, do your hair, and give yourself a nice dinner!

Take yourself to a movie.

This one may be even better than a dinner, because you can still get food but in a dark theater, no one will notice that you are alone. If none of your friends want to go see a movie and you do, don't let that stop you! And the same rule applies about hair and makeup, dress up if you want!

Take a bubble bath.

As long as you have access to a bathtub, this one is a no-brainer. Most dollar stores carry toiletry items, soaps and bath stuff included. Stock up on cheap bath bombs, new soap, body washes, new shampoos, etc. Everything should be pretty cheap, and you can get multiple uses out of a lot of things. Mix and match what you buy, light a few candles, and relax in the water. If you want to invest in more expensive bath items, Lush is always good for bath bombs, but don't stop there! DollarBathBombs.com launched this week, and I'm already addicted. They currently have six kinds of bath bombs, and all are (you guessed it!) only a dollar! You heard it here first folks!

Invest in a nice razor.

Hear me out—it is worth it. Disposable razors are fine and get the job done, but after I invested in a nice razor, I've never gone back. Bonus—if you have sensitive skin that is prone to razor bumps like me, you can get a razor that is designed for sensitive skin and it will really make a difference.

Get a haircut.

Even if you just get your edges trimmed at GreatClips, getting your hair cut or styled by someone else just feels nice. Especially if they wash it first. There is no better way to wash your hair than by letting a hairdresser massage your head. Walking out of a salon with a new style is almost guaranteed to make you feel like the most attractive person on planet earth.

Meditate.

One of the best things about this one is that it is completely free! You can meditate in complete silence or use a meditation video on YouTube to help you focus. Whether you need a break from rigorous studying, have had a stressful day, or just need help falling asleep, meditation is a great way to refocus your mind and relax your body. I use meditation videos from YouTube pretty regularly, and those range from 15 minute relaxation videos to ten hour deep sleep radios. Once you try it, you will be a believer. Check it out!

Turn your phone off.

I know, this is a really hard one. But giving yourself an allotted time to enjoy your own company, unbothered by anyone else, can be really relaxing. The texts will still be there when you turn it back on.

Buy yourself a treat!

This one depends on you. Get a milkshake or some frozen yogurt. Get a soft drink or a cookie. Forget about the calories, and savor the treat. You've earned it!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
