As college season comes back into full swing, most of us have found ourselves settling back into this fast-paced lifestyle for the past couple weeks. Although we’ve been back for quite a while, transitioning from home to college can still take a toll on us. Personally, my sophomore year was the hardest transition because while I knew what to expect coming back to college, it still took me by surprise for the second year in a row. So, I’ve put together a list of ways you can ensure your transition back into college life is as smooth as possible.

1. Reach out to your friends

Reconnect with your peeps and talk about classes with them over lunch or dinner! A nice meal with your favorite people can really remind you why you love being back at college.

2. Call mom and dad

There’s no better feeling than being loved and encouraged by your biggest fans. Never hesitate to call your parents when you're feeling a little down.

3. Realize it's completely normal to feel homesick

I'm a junior and I still miss my family like crazy constantly. Keep in mind that you're not the only one in the whole university who misses home.

4. Manage your time

Buy a planner and write down all your dates for the rest of the semester on it. Take life one day at a time and make sure to split up your time accordingly.

5. Get into a steady routine

Take the first couple of weeks to establish a nice routine that works for you and give your life a little more stability.

6. Exercise

You don't have to hit the gym every day for 3 hours, but get out there and move your body. Release those endorphins and get some fresh air at least once a day.

7. Eat well

Obviously, it’s impossible to stay away from all fast food in college, but eating bad food consistently can lead to low energy levels and cause mood swings. Remember that life is all about balancing.

8. Keep your room clean

It’s easy to get overwhelmed during the first few weeks of college, so make sure your living space is well-organized and ready for you to live in. De-cluttering your life can make a huge difference.

9. Don't overwhelm yourself

Know what you can and can’t control in your life. If you’re taking on a full course load this semester, maybe you shouldn’t be involved in 4 other club and an intramural sports team. Prioritize your life.

10. Compartmentalize your life

Recongnize that your social life, school life, and personal life are completely separate—create time for each aspect of your life and try not to mix them together.

11. Relax

I know this is easier said than done, but remember that college is supposed to be a healthy balance of fun and hard work. Don’t let yourself get caught up in the party scene, but don’t overwork yourself to the point of breaking.

As we all transition back into college, it’s important to remember that a little bit of effort and planning can go a long way. Happy schooling!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
