If you are like me, you have lots of family and relatives near and far, and with wedding season right around the corner, now just may be the perfect time to plan a bridal shower for that special bride-to-be in your life.

My sister is getting married abroad and didn't want to miss out on conventional festivities that come with getting married. So a few of her close friends will be throwing her an impromptu surprise bridal showers. Here is exactly what you need to make the surprise night special for your special girl.

1. Make a plan with the bride-to-be.

Tell her you want to hang out and spend some quality time with her before she gets busy and make it seem like she's going to a G.N.O.

2. Gather decorations.

Since my sister is getting married in a traditional Indian style wedding, the color theme was red. We put out a tablecloth, matching plastic utensils and napkins, and it really set the party mood! Do the same with a quick stop at a party store — or order online for pickup or delivery.

3. Cook her favorite meal or order from her favorite restaurant.

Either cook or order all her favorites or order out, just don't go wrong here! As they say, good food brings people together. And cake, you ask? A must.

4. Get her a "Bride-to-Be" sash.

Whether she wants a crown or not, the 'Bride-to-Be' sash is a given. She'll feel like a queen before her big day.

5. Get the bride a gift.

Last but not least, and probably the most important: a gift for her. With all of the hustle and bustle with her getting married, it can be easy to forget to get her a gift. You can never go wrong with something personal, something engraved, or something memorable to show her the impact she has had on your life, and how getting married is going to mean she's only going to spread her love.

While bridal showers may seem sappy to some, they are always a nice way to let your bride-to-be get together with the ones she loves before stepping into her new life.
