Going to a school in Pennsylvania, it has been brought to my attention that there are ways to tell I am not from PA. I am from New York and it has been very interesting to see how I compare to a lot of the people that go to my school. Here is what I have found out:
1. We have an accent.
I never really thought my accent was strong until I came to school in PA. Almost everyone I met that was not from New York would immediately ask me where I was from and when I said New York, the response every time without fail was, "Yeah, I can tell." Like ok...
2. We walk really fast.
As my roommate, who is from outside of Philly, pointed out to me the first week of school, I walk way too fast. She refuses to walk with me because she can't keep up. I can't help it though, in New York, everyone is in a hurry and if you aren't moving fast enough, you are just in the way.
3. We aren't patient.
I know personally, when I am at a restaurant, I have absolutely no patience when I am waiting for my food. Everything in New York is very fast paced and when you actually have to wait for something, it feels like it takes forever. While a lot of my friends from school never get annoyed when something takes forever.
4. We constantly talk about our pizza and bagels.
Any of my friends at school could support the fact that I don't shut up about how amazing the bagels and pizza are on Long Island. I constantly say that people need to come visit me just to experience what a real bagel and slice of pizza are supposed to taste like.
I don't hear my New York accent, I can't help but walk fast, I'm sorry that I'm not patient and New York bagels and pizza ARE the best.
