How To Tell If Your Best Friend Is Actually Your College Spouse

College can be rough at times, but if you find the right person to help you through, it can take some of the stress away. We all have that one person that we could not make it day to day without. Sounds like I'm describing my significant other, right? You would only be half wrong if that was your guess.

I don't think the term 'best friend' says enough about how much a person truly does and means to a person. They do so much more for you than that broad term can describe. I think that in college, you do find your best friends that you will have for life, but you also find your 'college spouse'.

col·lege spouse

noun

a person who you meet in college that you do everything with

1. You go grocery shopping together

Although you eat a lot of very different items, you still grocery shop together and get a large variety of foods to share. What's yours is now also theirs.

2. You basically share money

One of you never seems to carry cash, but that's alright because there's always a chance to pay each other back on the next breakfast/lunch/dinner date or the next grocery run.

3. You take turns doing chores

When you know the other person is having a rough day/week, you pick up the slack around the house so they have one less thing to worry about when they get home.

4. You make each other dinner

Hopefully one of you knows how to cook, otherwise you'll be eating a variety of takeout food.

5. You run errands for each other

With both of you having crazy schedules, it almost seems impossible to get anything outside of campus done. You better hope that your car doesn't break down or even worse....your laptop.

6. You lecture each other

At times you have to lecture one another when either of you isn't taking care of themselves, getting their homework done, or just making some bad decisions.

7. You are each other's taxi

Whether you are stranded at a party or just don't want to walk home from work or class, you always have someone to come get you.

8. You're the excuse why the other can't go out

Sometimes when you just want to stay in, but your friends are nagging you to come out, you can always use the excuse that you have to stay in because you promised them you would.

9. You validate each other's eating habits

Sometimes you have to cheat a little and order pizza, buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's, and then top it off with some Girl Scout cookies. Don't worry about it though, because you have them by your side to eat just as much if not more than you.

10. You take care of each other when sick

College students inevitably get sick at the worst times. You already dread going to class half the time, so why not add a runny nose and sore throat to help your motivation? You can always rely on them to recommend some home remedies, make you tea, or give you some DayQuil because you forgot to buy it.

11. They are always there when you need them

You know that no matter what they will always be around when you need a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or to stay home in your pajamas. Life would not be the same without them and you always make time to see them, even if it's only a quick lunch date.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
