How to Take a Selfie

A step by step guide to taking the perfect selfie.

How to Take a Selfie

Taking a selfie can be hard. As someone who has taken many awful selfies, I understand the disappointment of taking a selfie you thought looked good, but after starring at it for twenty minute to decide if it should become your profile picture, it looks terrible. So I decided to share my foolproof technique on how to take the perfect selfie!

First, start off by putting on makeup. Cover up all of those blemishes that you wish would go away and always poke at. Remember that natural beauty takes time, so you may have to sit there for hours to achieve true natural beauty.

Really make sure you coat it on there. The more the merrier! With more makeup, you should be feeling more confident.

After the makeup is done work on your hair. If your hair is anything like mine than you will really need to brush it all out. Make sure you get every single one of those knots out and if you pull out half of your hair while brushing it, just remember it's part of the process. Sometimes beauty hurts.

I recommend either curling or straightening your hair. Adding heat to your hair is not the greatest, but this is worth it. Doing something special to your hair is necessary, because in selfies you have to make sure that you look semi-unrecognizable.

After your hair is done, make sure to choose your best outfit. What you wear is a make or break for a selfie. Of course, if you are planning to take a traditional selfie of only the top half of yourself, pants will not be required. In the instance that you're taking a full body mirror selfie, you will need to wear pants sadly.

When you are fully dressed, hair done, and makeup on, the next task is to strike a couple poses in the mirror. Work on deciding what poses you are going to do for your photo shoot and definitely build up confidence. Repeat phrases to yourself like "my eyebrows are on fleek" and "my butt looks kickin'" to gain the full affect of the confidence building portion of this step.

You are almost there! You look fabulous and you have awesome poses perfected! The only step left before actually taking the selfie is finding the perfect background. An outside background with trees and mud behind you will give you more of a rugged look, while a picture near your desk will create the idea that you actually do work and that you are smart.

Finally, clean yourself off, put on some comfortable clothes, and order a pizza. In all honesty, it does not matter how much effort you put into a selfie because no matter what, your selfie will be perfect just because you are perfect! Forget about the makeup and clothes, the only thing needed to make a perfect selfie is a smile.

Congratulations! You now have the perfect selfie! #nofiltersneeded #ilovemyselfie

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
