As a natural born Floridian I have a certain aversion to the cold. Hate is such a strong word yet at the same time not harsh enough. I rather have it too hot than too cold, sweating over shivering, and so on. I think you get the point. Anyway, I have decided to share some of the tips that I have learned throughout the years on surviving the winter.
1. Eat, Drink, & Be Warm.
Stock up on your favorite teas, coffees and hot chocolates! Also now would be a good time to call home for your mom's best comfort food recipes or look some up online. Just like beauty I believe warmth starts from within.
2. Bring your pet inside!
This is more of a PSA than a tip. Even though it doesn't get too freezing in Florida anyone would be cold if they spent the entire night in a chilly climate. So, make sure your furry friends are well taken care of.
3.Fire, fire, and more fire.
Whether its a bonfire or you are lucky enough to have a fireplace, gathering around the fire with friends or family is an effective and fun way to endure the cold.
4. Cuddle.
Cuddle up with the fluffiest blanket you can find or you even your pet, partner, or friends. Cuddling in general is a good idea to stay warm.
5. Get some fuzzy socks...live a little.
Fuzzy socks are very important when trying to retain heat. They keep you nice and warm while out or in the house and there are always such quirky and cute pairs.
6. Spoil yourself with a heating blanket.
If you want to take the fuzzy blanket to the next level then get a heating blanket. If you wrap up in one on a cold night I guarantee you will be knocked out in 2 minutes.
7. Stay moisturized.
Hand lotions and chapstick will be your best friend, they will protect your from dry skin and chapped lips.
8. Stay inside.
The upside to cold weather is that you have an excuse to stay home and stay warm. You now have the perfect excuse for not wanting to go out.
9. Layering is your friend.
As a Floridian you probably have a small amount of thick jackets waiting in your closet but slim sweaters and tank tops are probably in high supply.
10. Be prepared for it to get hot again.
Finally, make sure that when the heat comes back you are ready for it. You don't want to be stuck in layers and boots when it reaches 72 degrees midday.
