If you live in an area that's not being mandatorily evacuated, then this list is for you. If you do live in an area where you need to evacuate, there's only one step: EVACUATE. Otherwise, if you need to stay where you are, read on.
1. Fill up your bathtub.
I know it sounds silly, but if your water cuts off, you'll need water for washing, cleaning, and (almost most importantly) flushing your toilet.
2. Speaking of water: get PLENTY to drink.
Stock up on as much bottled water as you can. My roommates and I bought two cases for $6 on a deal at the grocery store, but I've heard of people being overly prepared and stocking up on six cases or more.
3. Stock up on non-perishables.
Canned goods, peanut butter, honey, bread, snacks like chips and chocolate, etc. Remember most of the things you ate freshman year because you could barely cook anything. That's the stuff you might wanna stock up on. Stock up on batteries as well.
4. Charge EVERYTHING.
Charge your phone. Charge your iPod. Charge your computer. Charge your batteries. Charge your roommate. Charge your dog. Charge your LIFE.
5. Assemble the First-Aid Avengers.
Band-aids, gauze pads, Neosporin, alcohol, cold packs that you squeeze for them to get cold, hot packs (same strategy), aspirin or ibuprofen, Antacid, prescription drugs, etc. If you might need it, stock it.
5. Board up your windows.
You need to protect your property and while flood protection can be a toss up depending on where you live and how much plastic you have to wrap up your stuff, protecting against the wind may just depend on sheltering your windows from the blast.
6. Form an Evacuation Plan
If you are in an area that's a toss-up and you might have to evacuate, plan for it. If your city/area calls for you to evacuate, do it.
