7 Tips To Survive Firefly Music Festival

Music festival season is upon us and that means Firefly is right around the corner. Every June, an empty grassy area located in Dover, Delaware, becomes the one and only Woodlands. This event is one of the only things keeping the first state relevant so it's important to soak up this once a year fun. I've experienced Firefly for the past 3 years and here's a few tips I carry around to help me survive.

1. Stay hydrated

This is number one on the list because it's the most important in my opinion. The Woodlands is known to have some smoking temperatures so make good use out of the free water stations often. I've seen COUNTLESS of people pass out or get sick from not keeping cool.

2. Wear the right shoes

Sure, music festivals are a good excuse to flaunt your best or crazy looks, just don't rely on making a fashion statement with your footwear. Forget flip-flops or your expensive converse, wear something you wouldn't mind getting REALLY muddy or even destroyed. Comfort is everything!

3. Keep applying sunscreen

It's no questions that you'll leave Firefly with some weird tan lines but you don't have to leave with scorched skin. The sun will be making you into a lobster so apply sunscreen and apply it often since you'll probably sweat it off in no time.

4. Portable chargers are your friends

I'm not a big fan of carrying around electronics at a music festival but things happen. Don't wait forever for an open charging station, get a portable charger. It'll change your life... you're welcome.

5. Enjoy some shade

Refer to #1. Not only is it important to stay hydrated, it's important to cool down with some shade. The sun can be exhausting and nobody likes being overheated. Take a break every once in a while even if you don't want to.

6. Don't bring anything too valuable

This applies to clothes, electronics and anything else that you would mind getting destroyed or stolen. People steal and things get messy so just don't do it okay? Okay.

7. Map out what you want to do

I know Firefly is a place to go with the flow but at least have an idea of what bands you want to see and what time they go on. See if there's any stations you want to visit or food you want to eat and where they're located. Don't just walk into The Woodlands blind.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
