8 a.m. classes. The dreaded time by anyone who has been in college for at least one semester. At first, you think you can survive 8 a.m. classes because you did it in high school. But, all freshman are horribly mistaken. College is a totally different monster than high school, and if you go as crazy as every other freshman, you will figure out quite fast that 8 a.m.'s are impossible.
Then, something terrible happens. You're a junior now and you know how bad 8 a.m.'s are but you also know how bad 5 p.m. classes are. So what do you do? Suck it up for the 8 a.m. or the 5 p.m.? Personally, I don't want to be in class until 6:30 p.m.
This semester I'm going to try to do the impossible and take an 8 a.m. class and stick to it. The first day of class has passed and I made it. So, to prepare for the rest of the semester full of early classes, I give you: A Night Owl's Survival Guide To 8 a.m. Classes.
Step 1: Wake up at least an hour early and if you're on top of things, an hour and a half.
The key is to be completely awake and not falling asleep at the desk. Even though waking up at 6:30 a.m. sounds brutal, you'll thank yourself later.
Step 2: Make the coffee.
Essential. You won't be able to survive without this. Also, if you're in college, you probably already know this.
Step 3: Tell yourself it's worth it.
You might be second-guessing yourself, and you have a reason to, but think about what you'll be doing tonight while some people are in class and you're not.
Step 4: Carry on
Waking up this early will probably get old really quick throughout the semester but keep in mind that'll all be worth it! If you can get up early once, you can get up early again.
With that, good luck to all the 8 a.m.-ers, 9 a.m.-ers and 5 p.m.-ers. No matter what time the classes are, work hard and do what you gotta do!
