This week at College of the Holy Cross, students will be their final examinations, starting on Tuesday and concluding on Saturday.
This is a quick guide on how to best study for finals:
Location
If you are more of a library studier, wake up early to secure a seat in Dinand or the Rehm. The libraries fill up quickly, so it’s important to get there early. If you are at a loss for a place to study, check your dorm’s social space, any academic building that is open on campus, even the dining hall! There are quiet places all around.
Technique
Actively study- make flashcards, write outlines, pace and recite paradigms aloud, use all the methods of learning to make everything stick!
Study in chunks. Sit down and study for Subject X for an hour, Subject Y for an hour, Subject Z for an hour and then repeat!
Papers
If your exams are papers (I understand the struggle), turn them in as soon as you feel they are quality. Having those off your plate makes studying a whole lot easier.
Fuel
For the best finals snacks, go to the Lobby Shop as soon as it’s open and snag the cheese and crackers, pretzels and hummus, orzo and spinach soup, trail mix, and other healthy items to help you study through the night! The healthier you eat, the easier it is to stay awake sometimes.
Energy
Sleep, sleep, sleep! Focus all day, don’t distract yourself, study whenever and wherever you possibly can, but sleep for a solid five hours- your exam grades will thank you.
Recoup
Relax- the end of the semester is upon us! While finals are important and all, reflect on your semester and how much it rocked!
