A Guide On How To Stop Forgetting Things

Dear forgetful people, this is for you.

In honor of me forgetting more things this week than I feel like I have in my life, I have decided to make a list of things that may help forgetful people remember things.

1. You're always on your phone anyways.

Make sure you put absolutely everything you need to do in your phone, but don't rely on it. I even put in concerts I may want to go to and I always have 2 reminders for all of my events - one the day before and one a few hours before.

2. Use sticky notes.

I always use sticky notes to write down really important things I need to do, and then I stick them everywhere. But if you don't want to clutter your walls with sticky notes, I think the best place to put one is by your bed.

3. Make a list.

At the beginning of each week if you make a list of what needs to be done and then check each off during the week you'll never forget another thing. On top of the memorization happening when you're making it, it doubles when you keep checking things off it. Plus, it's always satisfying to finish a list.

4. Set agendas.

Not trying to go back to those high school days, but I was a lot less forgetful when I wrote everything down in one place. Even if you just have a small pocket calendar - if you can even still buy those.

5. Have wall calendars.

I have always wanted the calendar with goats in trees, but I am awful at buying calendars because I know I won't use them. If you do have the patience and are organized enough, a wall calendar is a good place to write important events.

6. Write it on your hand.

Ink poisoning is probably just a myth anyways. Although this washes off in 24 hours, it's good for things that need to be done ASAP.

7. Train your brain.

I'm thinking that if you improve your memory in your day to day life, you will also remember more things that you need to do. But probably don't rely on this.

8. Tell a friend/family member.

So if I ever have something I really need to do, I try to hold myself accountable by telling someone else. Even if they don't remember, just saying it out loud can sometimes help me to remember something important.

9. There's an app for that.

There is an app for everything so of course there's apps for remembering things. Click this link for the best ones you can find: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/12-apps-help-forgetfu...

10. Check your health.

So this sort of goes back to number 7, but if you aren't getting enough sleep or aren't feeding your brain, you are definitely more likely to forget things.

11. Just stop forgetting things.

Say things three times, write them down everywhere and make sure to hold yourself accountable for all those little things you need to get done.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
