How To Stay Warm In A World That Can Be So Cold

Truth is, our minds and the minds of our children, well that is where the revolution begins.

Honestly, my friends, how sad is it to live on a planet where world peace seems virtually unattainable? Hell, you even talk about world peace nowadays and people tune you out, they chalk you up as naive, someone who smokes too much pot, or just some hippie. Lately, I find myself searching for ways to stay warm in a world that can be so cold, here's what I've come up with.

1. Make peace with yourself first.

World peace may be too far out of reach, but inner peace on the other hand, inner peace is most definitely attainable. Practice being your own best friend rather than your own worst enemy. There are plenty of people in this world who are going to try to bring you down, you do not need to be one of them.

2. Believe in you.

We all have the power to make a difference. I’m not saying we'll change the world, but we can make it better, even if it’s just the slightest bit. In order to reach large scale revolution, it must first start somewhere, within one person, that person is you.

3. Do not expect people to have the same heart as you.

Just because you are willing to do so much for someone does not mean that person is willing to do the same for you. Coming to terms with the fact that not everyone has the same heart as you is tough, it hurts and often we are left with feelings of bitterness, and resentment. Sometimes your kindness will go unnoticed, unappreciated, but don't let it discourage you, it is crucial that you stay the way you are and that you keep your kindness, do not let anyone or anything turn you cold. The world needs you more than you know.

4. Practice indifference if you cannot practice kindness.

It's no secret that there are going to be people that hurt you, betray you, and lie to you in life. There will be people that no matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to forgive them for what they've done, whatever it may be. Practice indifference, this will help. Indifference is when you show no particular interest or concern for a particular situation. Let's face it, hate is baggage, hate means you still care, hate hurts. Indifference though, indifference will free you from people who just are not your cup of tea.

5. Educate yourself well enough to form your own opinions.

Too often young minds are brainwashed to believe that everything their parents tells them is right and everything they see on the news is true. Do not get sucked into going along with whatever is trending on social media or whatever your friends are saying simply because you were too busy and or lazy to educate yourself enough to form your own opinions.

6. Revolution begins with the mind of a child.

If you have children or the ability to impact a child in any way, you hold more power than you know. Kindness, empathy, compassion, forgiveness, patience, consistency, things powerful enough to change the world, demonstrate them, teach them, spread them like wildfire. If you can impact even one person out there and make them kinder, softer, stronger, maybe more gentle, more forgiving, for even just one day, or one moment, then you will have made a difference.

7. Some people are good people and some people are bad people.

It really is that simple. Some people are mainly good, some are mainly bad and some are in between. Whether a person is good, bad or in between has absolutely nothing to do with the color of skin, religion, sexual orientation, or anything other than the depths of a person and what kind of thoughts reside there, the deepest, darkest parts of you, that’s who you are.

8. Do not lose your faith in humanity.

Ever feel like every time you start to restore your faith in humanity, some psychopath comes out of the woodwork and fucks the whole thing up? It's hard to stay positive and uplifted in a world where so many terrible things are happening around us every day. Too many of us have become so cynical at such a young age and while it's understandable, it's not something that feels good. Remember, revolution starts with your own mind. Stay in a good place, no matter how cold the rest of the world gets, stay warm.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
